2. The opening scene starts with a non
diagetic music that builds a suspense. We
see a long shot of a woman who is
climbing up a hill using a rope, in a jumper
and a bib. This gives us the idea that she is
a policeman and we can tell this will be a
horror as there is a dark forest behind her
and low lighting.
3. The camera then cuts to see the woman
now running through the forest. The
Non-Diegetic struggle through her voice.
We see her then running from a side on
with what seems to be a handheld
camera. There is a lot of jumpy
movements as though we are running
alongside her.
4. In this clip we see a FBI agent come up to
Clarice and tell her that she Is wanted by the
boss via diegetic dialogue. She then runs the
other way. Clarice is shown on screen left so
from this we can tell that all though she is
getting told what to do she is still the more
important character which is also unusual for
a woman in the FBI as we associate it with
men
We then see a cut to the FBI agent
just stare into the wilderness after
she runs away. This is a confusing
clip as the mid shot shows a
concerned look on the mans face. It
looks as though something bad is
going to happen. This sets the
suspense for the rest of the scene.
5. The camera then cuts to the top of a tree, it
then tilts downwards and we are shown these
four words. These words are all motivational.
Things should hurt but in the end you will love
it is the overall message. This means that in the
FBI they have to go through what they need to
in order to make it through. It could also be a
sign for the rest of the film saying there will be
‘hurt, agony, pain’ and in the end they will
‘Love-It’ or will love be shown?
6. In this clip we see Clarice who has been
talking to a man who is in a suit so we
make the connection that he is in a high
position within the FBI. We then see a mid
shot of Clarice staring at something with a
very intrigued look on her face. We then
see the camera cut to the board of many
paper cut outs. The camera pans and we
see many different cut outs. ‘Bill Skins
Fifth’ is a headline that we can see clearly.
This shows us that ‘Bill’ is going to be a
main character in the film. The fact he
skins people shows it will be a horror.
