China: COVID-19 outbreak led to a severe blow to vehicle
sales since the beginning of 2020. In order to cushion
flagging vehicles sales, the central government announced an
extension of the NEV subsidy and a 0% NEV purchase tax
into 2021 and 2022. Banks are instructed to provide auto
loans with lower interest rates, longer terms, and lower
down payments.
Top 3 Markets*
South Korea: the sales increase was mainly attributed to new model
launches from domestic brands, promotional campaigns to support
domestic consumption and the economy, and pull-ahead purchases before
the end of the special consumption tax relief on PC
Japan: deterioration of the macroeconomic
environment in Japan is combined with eco-
car tax break, green car tax break extensions
and 1% auto tax easing for one year (but
ending in 09/2020, which was extended
further to March 2021 to support industry
with the COVID-19 crisis).

Italy – Market Overview
Source: UNRAE, Arthur D. Little Analysis ∆’19/’18 ∆’20/’19
In September, after eight months of recession due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the market has recorded the first encouraging sign
of recovery (+9,5% vs. September 2019). Still, in the first 9 months, the market has had a significant drop: -34.0% with 972.959 units
compared to 1.474.845 in January-September 2019, with a final balance of 501.886 units sold less. Private segment in September
was recovering better than other segments (-27.6% for Private, -40.3% for Fleet and -46.7% for Business). Main optimistic numbers
are related to EV sales (+225.3% in September 2020 vs. 2019 with 2.832 registered units this month) and hybrid sales (+477.9% or
24.134 units registered more than in September 2019).There is a risk of a rapid depletion of the resources allocated to incentives:
those in the 91-110 g/Km range have already ended and, probably in mid-October, those in the 61-90 g/Km range will also end
