Along with the operational and workflow changes that come with digital health, we are seeing greater demand for data to support care transformation, risk contracting and organizational performance. The time is right to consider how analytics can support organizational strategies and how we can ensure alignment across the organization. As part of the strategic alignment exercise we often see organizations consider how to best deliver advanced analytic capabilities and then ask themselves the question “how should we organize our analytic teams?” Often, an effective way to increase that efficiency, improve morale and achieve economy of scale is to consider changes to how analytics teams are organized. The most appropriate organizational structure will vary based on the health system size, culture, and analytics (and data) maturity. Franchesca Ivane Manuntag, Mari Jo Pabilonia, Julia Krista Villadiego and Charina Ortiz of Team OMQ were initially tasked to create a Headline Analyzer for a Content Marketing Agency to capture the attention of their niche market. But is headline enough? There is a shift in the viewership and the client needs to identify what exactly do their target readers want. Using advanced data science techniques such as LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) Topic Modeling and XGBoost Regression, the team took on the challenge of creating ART-E (ARTicle Evaluator), a tool that can describe what exactly makes an article popular and predict viewership even before an article gets published.

Charlene Grajales, Dina Derla and Maria Regina Corazon Sibal of Team IntensiPy took on the challenge of identifying sales drivers from an appliance distributing and sales company. The challenge was to look into a year’s data with 347 thousand sales records and 14 features, as they tried to solve, “What are the sales drivers for an appliance? How do these drivers affect sales?” Weekly company sales data as well as client validate competitor data was explored for data visualization, analytics and model development. The team was able to produce an interactive dashboard highlighting major sales drivers for the company, share kite key insights and observations from the data and looked into possible external factors that can validate the results. They went further to create a prototype sales predictor web application that can generate weekly projections for sales for user selected features.

Behind the ease of flicking a switch to turn on the lights is a convoluted market for electricity. Just like any other good, electricity is trade-able and its trading is as complicated as it gets. To help AC Energy understand the market better, generation and bidding profiling of gencos was conducted by Alyssa Katelyn Castillo. By identifying the activities and tendencies of each plant, more informed actions in the market are made available. Add to that being able to assess the bidding behavior of competitors, a competitive advantage is created. These days, electricity has become a basic good, but it is rarely understood. It's a little known fact that there is a market for electricity. Even more so, that electricity in the Philippines is a tradable commodity. Knowing how this market works and what power plants actually do is both informative and interesting to know.

Team MCU members Isabel Mañalac, Alexis Canaria and Erika Ureta took on the challenge of helping more Filipinos get into trading and increase their financial literacy. But by being part of the 95%, themselves, the team first learned how traders think, and that the market moves with their sentiment. Using Twitter as one medium for reading the market, tweets and stock quotes from 2012 to 2020 were scraped and modeled together to analyze movement affecting factors.

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has been hit by 232 earthquakes in tha past 50 years, including the 3 consecutive earthquakes that rocked Cotabato City in October 2019. To help the BARMM government become more resilient, Team Spyce Girls composed of Elaine Cotoner, Kimberly Cris Estrella and Sarah Khey Ebido deployed a hazard map that indicates low, medium, and high-risk municipalities based on magnitude, depth, and how often earthquakes occur in the area. Using data from the SHP file from Open Bangsamoro and earthquake data set from USGS, the team focused on making a specific earthquake hazard map to give a clearer picture of where the hazard areas are. This information will help in earthquake preparedness, disaster management program, and urban planning of BARMM.

We may be nowhere near eradicating Dengue, but we may be able to prevent it more effectively. Through Time-Series Modeling and geospatial mapping, Team Flex was able to predict and forecast cases and deaths up to 4 months and identify potential dengue hotspots in selected cities of the CALABARZON region. The global threat of disease outbreaks is real and it is felt more than ever now as the world struggles to contain the spread of a certain virus. But before it even created a pandemic, there is already another disease that threatens our existence, perhaps has been doing so for the longest time – Dengue. Dengue affects thousands of lives each year and continues to be a major public health problem in the Philippines. In the last year alone, the Philippines experienced the worst dengue outbreak since 2012 as reported cases reached beyond epidemic thresholds. On top of that, the delayed reporting of official case and death counts makes it even more difficult to pinpoint heavily dengue affected areas early on and initiate a targeted public health response. To address this problem, Team Flex members, Janine Padilla, Mox Ballo, and Rache Melendres, developed a publicly accessible web application that can be used by concerned government agencies and public health officials to predict the spread of dengue and visualize potential breeding sites of mosquitoes.

There are many students applying for a loan but only a few complete the process. Diosa Jamila Angsioco, Kathlyn Cacho, and Hanceely Villa were motivated to make a study regarding student loans to improve access to education. Tropang South was able to determine the bottlenecks in the application process and as a result, they provided better marketing strategy for Bukas Finance Corp. The scholars performed classification and clustering algorithms to address the drop off issue of many interested applicants on an online student loan company. In addition, they gathered significant information regarding the personas of the applicants and recommended ways to gather leads for the company.

Our community is where people and companies who believe the Philippines can be one of the data capitals of the world. Every year, lives and properties are lost because of fires. With this in mind, our scholars wanted to do their part in helping prevent these incidents using data analysis. Using information scraped from Twitter, Team Data Trippers: Aida Ellaine Abalos, Alyssandra Raiza del Valle, and Kathleen Criselle Reverente, explored data surrounding fire incidents in Metro Manila from Jan 2017-Jul 2019. In addition to mapping these incidents, the team explored various historical trends, as well as the relationship between the number and duration of fire incidents to certain features.

National Achievement Test or NAT is a standardized test given to Grades 6, 10 and 12 students to determine their academic performance in different subject areas. With that, Maria Theresa Capule-Navarro, Edlyn Oligario, and Jean Estadilla identified the key factors that affect NAT result using machine learning model that can help in making policies for the development of education. The team wanted to predict the NAT exam result of a public school. The features used for prediction are school location, internet connectivity, power connectivity, budget per school, student-teacher ratio, and poverty index.

The capstone project of Team Data Guardians describes and predicts the performance of games across different genres in an online gaming platform, such as Steam, and identify the factors critical to the product’s success. The capstone project uses clustering algorithms to group the games based on key indicators of its success such as rating and achievement percentage.

It aims to determine different user behavior on the app through the use of various techniques such as visualization, clustering, and RF Analysis. Renzy Bantigue, Nyssa Michelle Kho, and Frances Erika Claravall provided the company facts and figures on how the customers use the mobile application through data analytics and then crafted a machine learning model that will cluster the customers based on their app usage. The group used these insights to provide recommendations to the company, such as marketing campaigns and product improvement.

Such study can help provide businesses information regarding actual product impact spanning from survey results to raw data feedback which is key in creating better products to meet client demands and improve gaming experience.
