This document discusses identifying potential physiological factors that determine if foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) induces lysis of bovine epithelial cells, including tissue thickness and structure, viral replication dynamics, and receptor distribution. Improved understanding of the role of these factors could help explain lytic or non-lytic responses of epithelial cells to FMDV.
