1) The study evaluated new commercial kits for detecting antibodies to non-structural proteins (NSP) of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), including ELISAs and lateral flow devices from BioNote (Korea) and UBIO (India). 2) The kits were tested on international reference panels containing 36 cattle and 34 field sera. 3) Only the 3D-ELISA from Prionics showed sufficient sensitivity, detecting antibodies in 91.5% of samples similarly to the reference tests. The other kits had lower detection rates, especially the lateral flow devices.

3D-ELISA-conjugate B showed performance similar to that of the two reference tests;
3D-ELISA-conjugate A resulted less sensitive;
The two 3D-ELISAs compensate each other, not missing the same sera;
BioNote ELISA presented a lower detection rate, but mainly evidenced by the WRL reference sera;
LFDs showed the lowest sensitivity.
CONCLUSION: Only the 3D-ELISA (with conjugate B alone, or both tests with conjugate B and A
run in parallel) has shown sufficient requisites and an extended validation is recommended.
