Top 8 Foods for a Healthy Heart

       By Daniel Harper

http://ezhealthmanagement.com/blog/
It would have been a dream-come-true for most people if bacon, cheeseburgers, ice cream, French fries,
doughnuts and fried chicken were good for your body especially for your heart. But the truth is, the more we
indulge in these “delicious” foods, the more we are at risk of developing heart diseases. Fortunately there are
foods that you can eat every day that are not only tasty but can also strengthen your heart.

• Oatmeal. A warm bowl of oats for breakfast is a good way to start your day. It’s full of fiber, folate,
potassium and omega-3 fatty acids. Oatmeal lowers your cholesterol levels and helps clear your arteries. Top it
with banana and berries for added vitamins and fiber.

• Olive oil. Olive oil contains high levels of antioxidants and monounsaturated fats which are good in lowering
blood cholesterol. It also helps in protecting your body from certain types of cancers. You can either have a
shot of olive oil daily or use it as dipping oil for bread and raw vegetables.
• Salmon. Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids which are good in reducing blood pressure and preventing
clots. It also contains carotenoid astaxanthin, a powerful type of antioxidant that keeps the heart healthy. If you
don’t like salmon, you can opt for tuna, mackerel and sardines instead.

• Dark chocolate. Not only dark chocolate can make you feel happy but it can also keep your heart healthy.
Dark chocolate is good in lowering bad cholesterol and blood pressure and can reduce your risk for diabetes.
Like I always advice, consume dark chocolate in moderation and include it in a healthy diet.
• Avocado. Add avocado in your sandwich or salads for a good dose of monounsaturated fats and good
cholesterol. It is also effective in helping the body absorb carotenoids like beta-carotene and lycopene which
are essential for your heart.

• Berries. You can never go wrong with berries, especially blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. All
berries are rich in anti-inflammatories which prevents heart diseases and cancers. Eat berries with oatmeal,
salads or dark chocolate for a more healthy and tasty combo.
• Soy. Soy is a good source of lean protein if you want to cut down on cholesterol and saturated fat. You can
choose to add soy milk for your oatmeal or whole-grain cereal and tofu for your salads.

• Tea. Whatever color it may be, tea has never failed in helping bodies stay healthy. It is rich in antioxidants
which prevents heart disease, cancer and diabetes. As well as help protect the body from the effects of aging.
Whether it is served hot, cold or mixed with other foods or beverages, tea is very effective in keeping your
heart healthy.
Your choice of food determines the health of your heart. As we only have one heart, it is our responsibility to
keep it healthy and in top shape. Stay away from processed foods, eat more fruits and vegetables and exercise
daily. Take care of your heart and it will take care of you.
