learning process.
• It places the students in the active role of
problem – solvers confronted by an ill –
structured situation.
• It challenges students to learn through
engagement in a real problem.

• The teacher’s role changes from "sage on
stage" to a "guide by the side."
• Students are more active since they are
engaged as a problem solver, decision –
maker and meaning – maker.
• Constructivist approach – students uses their
prior knowledge and build new concepts

• Will not work effectively if rapport is not
established
• Dominant students might affect the
participation of shy – type students
• Difficult with large classes
• Involves a lot of time
