Where we are today
Grid tied system is the simplest and most cost effective way to connect pv
modules to regular utility power.
Grid connected system can supply solar power to our home and use
utility power as back up.
As long as there is enough electricity in from pv system no electricity will
flow in from the utility company.
If system is generating more power than we are using, then excess will
flow back into the grid turning meter backwards.

5. • Most inverters used in a grid tied solar system has conversion efficiencies of 90% or
higher.
• Inverters contain important safety features including ground fault circuit interruption.
These shut down the PV system when there is a loss of grid power.
• Circuit breakers protect electrical systems from over current or surges.
• The power generation can be fed into the power grid, and the power grid is used as
the energy storage device to save the battery.
• By adding backup energy source and you’re helping to improve the efficiency of the
main electrical grid during peak usage times.
• You can take advantage of net metering ensuring your energy is not wasted.
• Ensures saving more money through net metering.
Advantages of a Grid-Tied Solar Power System
6. • Grid tied PV can cause issues with voltage regulation. Electricity injected into
the grid increases voltage, and can drive levels outside the acceptable
bandwidth of ±5%.
• The amount of power generation is related to climatic conditions.
• The energy density is low in a grid tied solar power system. Under standard
conditions, the intensity of solar radiation received on the ground is
1000W/M^2.
• DC equipments being expensive.
• The Photovoltaic cells use heavy metals which are toxic and difficult to
recycle.
• If the main power grid happens to go down, your grid-tied system will shut
off in order to prevent energy from feeding into the system.
