CSD 1230 Introduction to Speech-language Pathology 3 credits UG (SP 15)
Description: This course provides student with a basic introduction to the field of speech-language
pathology. The underlying theory of speech and language development and basic clinical skills for working
with individuals with a variety of speech, language and swallowing disorders are reviewed. Each week a
portion of the class session was addressed through a team-teaching approach by members of the faculty in
the Department of Communication Science and Disorders. Students were exposed to full diversity of the
field through the invited presentations with the first hour of each session used to review material and make
connections between the content across the weeks.
CSD 1231 Evaluation and Treatment 3 credits UG (FA 14)
Description: The purpose of this course is to introduce undergraduate students to theoretical knowledge
about the evaluation and treatment of human communication disorders. Students develop prerequisite
knowledge related to principles of clinical management (e.g. code of ethics, scope of practice, cultural
diversity, test construction/administration, models of service delivery, components and principles related to
the diagnostic and intervention process) to help facilitate their transition to the clinical setting.
