 Research company prior to interview
 Practice several scenarios
 Know who you will be meeting with and their position in the company
 Create a list of questions to ask about the company and position
 Arrive at least 15 minutes early.
 Bring your resume and a portfolio or notepad to the interview.
During the ‘Personal Experience Interview’ you will be asked to describe examples from
your past that illustrate your skills in one or more of the following broad areas:
Leadership
• Ability to provide leadership and
direction to others
• Does not necessarily mean you
were the “official” leader
Impact on others
• Having an impact on others
through influencing them
Achieving
• Set and achieve a
challenging goal
• Good Example: You were a team member that was able to
guide the group to overcome significant challenges
• Bad Example: You were elected into a position but never
faced any obstacles
• Good Example: It was a challenge to successfully influence
one or more people to adopt a particular agenda
• Bad Example: People already essentially agreed with your
point of view
• Good Example: You both set and achieved a challenging
goal
• Bad Example: You achieved a goal set by others or set and
achieved a goal that was an expected part of your job
Focus on what you did, not what your team as a whole did
 Should you be judged on what you wear, your physical appearance,
or the colour of your eye shadow?
 In reality, employers are usually looking for ways to “weed out”
applicants.
 When attending a job interview, how you look may influence the
employer’s decision about who gets the job.
 Below are a few simple rules to follow to make interview day run
smoothly!
We all get them - and those that say they don't are usually lying!
 Proper Preparation
 Learn to train your mind for success at interviews
 Visualization or day-dreaming
Tips:
 Arrange for morning interview
 Be well rested
 Eat properly
 Trial run to place of interview day before
You have something to offer and tomorrow may
just be the start of a brand new career.
 Speak positively about yourself and others
 Use body language to show interest
 Nod
 Sit forward
 Sit up straight
 Smile
Reflect on the interview
 What did I do well?
 What could I prepare to answer better next time?
 Verbal and written communication
