FORMULA: más/menos + noun + que
• Hay más huracanes en el verano que en el invierno.
(more hurricanes than)
• En general, vas a ver menos águilas que buitres.
(less eagles than)

3. COMPARING NOUNS
“as much” or “as many” items
FORMULA: tanto(-a,-os,-as) + noun + como
• Vinieron tantas turistas a la playa este año como en el
año pasado.
(as many tourists as)
• Jorge nadó en tantos ríos como Ángela.
(as many rivers as)

4. COMPARING NOUNS
“tanto” changes to match the gender and
the number of the items being compared

5. COMPARING NOUNS
To help clarify tan vs. tanto:
tan = “as”, use it with adjectives/adverbs
tan bonita = as pretty
tan difícil = as difficult
tan rápidamente = as quickly
tanto/a/os/as = “as much” “as many”, use it with nouns
tanto dinero = as much money
tantos pájaros = as many birds

6. AVOID REPEATING THE NOUN
To avoid repetition, leave out the second noun
and use más/menos/tanto(-a,-os-as) in its place
• There are many tourists here. There are more tourists than
last year.
