French worksheet: regular '-ir' verbs
1. VERBS ENDING IN ‘-IR’
As well as verbs that end in ‘-er,’ many French verbs have the ending ‘-ir.’ The way that we write
the endings to these verbs are a little bit different.
Here is an example:
choisir: to choose. Choisir is a regular -ir ending verb.
Je choisis……………………….I choose
Tu choisis……………………..You choose
Il/Elle choisit……………………He/She chooses
Nous choisissons…………………We choose
Vous choisissez…………………..You choose
Ils/Elles choisissent………………They choose
Note: vous is used to say ‘you’ in plural form, or when addressing someone formally.
The endings highlighted in bold can be added to the base of all regular -ir ending verbs. Have a go
at writing the endings to another verb: finir (to finish)
Je _____________________
Tu _____________________
Il/Elle _____________________
Nous _____________________
Vous _____________________
Ils/Elles _____________________
Here are some more regular -ir ending verbs that you can practise with:
grandir (to grow up)
agir (to act)
nourrir (to feed)
réfléchir (to reflect)
réussir (to succeed)
avertir (to warn)
