Government's wheat procurement has increased by nearly 2
per cent to 26.7 million tonnes (MT) so far in 2015-16
marketing year."Till May 26 this season, 267,06,313 tonnes
wheat has been procured by the government agencies in various
wheat growing states, while during last season it was
262,86,152 tonnes on the day," Food Ministry said in a
statement. In order to give relief to farmers affected with
unseasonal rains and hailstorms, the Government had relaxed
quality norms for wheat procurement.Last month, the Center
had decided to bear value cut, if any imposed for shriveled,
broken and luster lost grains, so that farmers get full Minimum
Support Price(MSP) for their produce.According to sources
most of the wheat procured under relaxed specifications, is
either shriveled or there is loss of lustre.Meanwhile, on state-
wise basis Punjab continues to be the largest contributor to the
food basket of the county with 9.86 MT of wheat procured this
year so far.Madhya Pradesh has jumped to the second position
in wheat procurement with 7.21 MT, replacing Haryana which
slipped to third position with 6.75 MT.
The global sugar prices are accentuating their slide, breaking
under 12 cents per poundto test a fresh six year low amid
weakness of the local currency in top grower Brazil andworries
about elevated global sugar stocks. Reports stating that the
monsoon would bearriving in the Indian shortly are also
affecting sentiments. The benchmark futures closedat 11.87
cents per pound right now, down 1.74% on the day. Brazil's real
eased against theUS dollar to test its lowest level in nearly two
months and is currently hovering around3.14 mark.
Turmeric futures slipped on profit taking amid weak demand. The NCDEX
turmeric for the June delivery ended the day at Rs 7608, down Rs 316 or
3.99%. Turmeric eased a bit today, extending its recent losses. Slight rainfall
in Erode capped the gains for Turmeric in last few days. Turmeric has stayed
supported off late as growers are refusing to sell at lower levels. Traders are
expecting further decline in the coming days due to possibility of new supplies
from other producing states, primarily in Karnataka in near term. Spot prices
are quoting at Rs 7800 per quintal, down Rs 30 per quintal on the
day. Turmeric April delivery eased after hitting the high of Rs 9060 as on 28th
April 2015 and fell near Rs 7604 level twice during the week. The counter

fickle amidlack of buying interest. Traders continued to eye the rainfall
situation today and spicesmostly dropped bearing a massive surge in
Corinader. Monsoon is likely to be on time andcould set over the Kerala coast
over next one week. Pre monsoon Rainfall has been decentin the country in
last few days. Some good pre-Monsoon rain coupled with
thundershoweractivity in North India in last few days has helped the country
in recording surplus rainthis week. According to the data available with
Skymet Meteorology Division in India, rainfall in the country from May 14 to
May 20 has been in excess of 32%. This is lookingpromising from the point of
view of the Kharif harvest and an early start to the sowingcan be expected if
the trend continues.
Coriander witnessed good buying in ready markets amid quality worries.

COTTON ARRIVALS AT KEY SPOT
MARKET
National Market Update
India exported 0.622 lakh bales of cotton last week (18-24 May 2015), which was
0.416 lakh bales previous to last week (11-17 May 2015), Imports on the other hand
stood 0.128 lakh bales last week, which was 0.383 lakh bales previous to last week.
The loss of around Rs 2,500 crore is likely to incur by government on cotton
procurement scheme, which was aimed to save the farmers from the crashing cotton
prices held in the current marketing year through September, said Textile minister
Santosh Kumar Gangwar. The losses were earlier estimated to be around Rs 4000
crore, said Gangwar. The loss could still be lower than Rs 2500 crore if cotton price
improves. Around eight textile industry association in Tamil Nadu urged the state
minister (road transport, national highways and shipping) to relax Cabotage law in
order to make transport of cotton from Gujarat to Tamil Nadu easier. Under the law
the Indian vessel will be given the first preference for the transportation of good from
one port to another and any foreign vessel could get chance only when Indian vessel
in not available and the India's maritime regulator issues the license to foreign vessel.
The southwest rains this season are predicted to be below normal for the second
consecutive year, according to the IMD. According to the market participants, unlike
the other crops, the deficit in rainfall would not impact cotton output and rather it
could benefit cotton as it is the desert crop.
Around 60% of cotton planting has been completed in USA as on May 24 this year,
which was 35% last week and 47% last year on same date, according to USDA. The

according to the official custom data. During the initial four month of the year,
