I believe that outcomes are created by their contributing factors and components, which I’ll call elements.
Sometimes I’m asked this question because I’m a passable guitar player who logged a lot of late night miles in an Econoline.
So here’s what it comes down to: TALENT, LOOKS, AND LUCK. And if you aren’t willing to put in what it takes to score a 9 in all three of these, or a 10 in any one of them, then you probably aren’t going to make it.
A similar chemical and mathematical calculation comes into play when we talk about promoting entrepreneurship and business.
The first element that really matters is an environment that encourages the pursuit of greatness.
We believe we are making something great, and we want the world to know where it comes from.
If we make something that delights and astonishes people, no matter where they are in the world, it will reflect well on all three parties involved.
This insecurity and inferiority complex we have regarding our purportedly more dashing neighbor to the north is getting to be a drag.
I could have grabbed any number of metrics, but this one seems germane to the discussion at hand.
Combined with the way that our state has attempted to attract business for the last four decades, and you can see how this gets old.
It’s great that we have people who invest their leisure dollars on each end of our state. In the middle, we’ve got to earn the same pride if we want them to invest their business dollars.
I had a simple goal because as a former touring player I knew it well.
Working with smart people, we examined the elements of what made something great.
But working with players, designers, and smart people here, we took what we always wanted from a drive pedal and made it great.
But it’s not enough to be in the “buzz bin”, new, hip, and under the radar. We want to be ON THE RADAR. We want to be known.
And the same commitment I brought to Wave Cannon has been brought by my team to our newest products.
No I have to be candid, frank, with unvarnished honesty.
Sometime people think that this is a solitary task, and that in the cloud/knowledge economy, you can do this on your own.
But it’s a slippery slope from doing a little social networking to wondering about stuff that really doesn’t matter at all, and wasting time on stuff that doesn’t matter at all.
WE’ll allow for the next ten seconds to answer that question so you never have to wonder about it.
But now that I have your attention, I want to dial down the PowerPoint fireworks and talk about the most important element.
If you have vaporware or dreamware, it’s time to make it real. If you know people who are doing things here, help them make it great. If you are making something great here, we hope you’ll let the world know where it’s from. My team can spin gold from straw, but we need to be able to buy straw. If you know where capital can come from, help. We are counting on you.
There are elements that can help create the kind of place we want to live in. But the most important part is you.
