Fedegari always rejected the idea of assembling sophisticated machines with standard components. Fedegari Autoclavi SpA is the holding company of an Italian industrial group manufacturing customized machines, plants and the relevant components for the bio-/pharmaceutical and food industry worldwide.The know-how of the group lies in the field of sterile and clean processes and encompasses different technologies and products. For many years now, Fedegari has been considered a world-class reference manufacturer in the field of sterilization by virtue of the many innovations that it has introduced in its machines and processes. A unique feature of Fedegari is the extreme verticalization of the company, which always rejected the idea of assembling sophisticated machines with standard components (designed for a variety of applications) but always sought to develop and produce components and technologies in-house, so as to acquire always deeper knowledge of the machines and innovate them always than anybody else.

The canned food sterilization faces a great challenge: to minimize the quality losses while providing an adequate process to achieve the desired degree of sterility. Temperature deviations are costly while representing under or over processed food, waste of energy and low productivity. This paper describes the implementation of a fully integrated solution for the sterilization process in one of the biggest European tuna can manufacturers.

Malaria Consortium's Support to National Malaria Programme (SuNMaP) project has been working in Nigeria with partners to achieve universal coverage of nets by stregnthening the LLIN commercial sector market. This Learning Paper details the challenges facing the commercial sector in Nigeria and SuNMaP’s unique approach to support the commercial sector market, including working with manufacturers and distributors of LLINs as well as with state governments and the National Malaria Elimination Program. THe paper also provides valuable learning on how free distribution, mass campaigns and the commercial sector can work together harmoniously to achieve the highest possible LLIN coverage.

Malaria Consortium’s involvement in iCCM has spanned inputs to facilitate policy development, project design, implementation from start-up phase; ongoing support to the public health system in continued implementation; the trial of specific supportive interventions to boost effectiveness; monitoring and evaluation; costing analysis work; and advocacy. This paper discusses a participatory evaluation on iCCM implementation in South Sudan, Uganda and Zambia. Objective: This course provides a deep understanding of vaporized hydrogen peroxide technologies, process development and validation with biological indicators (BIs). Following practical sessions at the machines, by the end of the course trainees will be able to develop and run a decontamination process, manipulate BIs and calculate system D-value. Who should attend? The course is intended for individuals involved with or who are considering the use of vaporized hydrogen peroxide technology. It is appropriate for personnel working in QA, regulatory affairs, production, engineering, validation, and microbiology.

Since 2008, the Malaria Consortium programme, Support to the Nigeria Malaria Programme (SuNMaP), has been working in Nigeria to strengthen the national effort to control malaria. Among the programme’s activities is the harmonisation of malaria control – which means working with supporting partners locally, nationally and internationally, for the common purpose to reduce the burden of malaria in Nigeria. The paper describes some of SuNMaP’s successes in rolling out harmonisation – such as leading a unified approach to the rollout of a nationwide LLIN campaign rollout, and developing standardised modules for the training of health workers in service delivery and programme management.
