Finnish companies actively improved their energy efficiency between 2008-2016 through voluntary energy efficiency agreements. Over 650 companies implemented over 17,000 energy saving measures, resulting in annual energy savings of 15.4 TWh, cost savings of €529 million, and a reduction of 4.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. Due to these measures, participating businesses are now more energy- and cost-efficient while producing fewer emissions.

3. Energy-intensive industry in Finland was actively improving its energy
efficiency 2008-2016. Energy-intensive industry includes all the
companies, that have at least one site, where energy consumption
exceeds 100 GWh annually.
The voluntary Energy Efficiency Agreement for industries covered nearly all
energy-intensive industry in Finland, with 41 companies and their 131 sites
in 2008–2016.
Due to energy saving measures implemented over this period, their businesses
are more energy- and cost-efficient and produce less CO2

ENERGY SECTOR
Energy sector in Finland extensively took part in the voluntary Energy Efficiency
Agreement for industries 2008–2016.
39 energy companies and their 212 sites (with electricity and/or heat production) took part
in the agreement. Additionally 91 companies and their 130 sites that provide energy services
(delivery of district heat/cooling to end users or electricity transmission, distribution and retail
sale) participated in the agreement.
Due to energy saving measures implemented over this period, their businesses are more
energy- and cost-efficient and produce less CO2
emissions. In addition companies provide
advisory services for their customers that increase end users’ energy awareness and capability
to save energy.
