Unity
The Ubuntu Desktop is called Unity.
The Unity User Interface consists of several
component.
The Launcher
launch to start the usual Application

The vertical bar of icons on the
left side of the desktop is called
the Launcher.
The launcher provides you with
quick access to applications,
removable devices and the trash.
All running applications on your
system will place an icon in the
Launcher while the application is
running.

Files
Launcher->Files
Files manager display a list about
Holder and File.
As you know, it is a kind of file explorer.
Common Task
Copy or move files and folders
Delete files and folders
Rename a file or folder
Search for files

Launcher->FireFox
Web browsing
Firefox already installed,
Ubuntu has everything you need to
browse the web.
You can choose more browsers, like
Google Chrome, from the Ubuntu
Software Centre.

LibreOffice is a free and open
source (GPL-licensed) office suite .
Word processing (Writer)

Software center has a function of
installation, deletion and searching.
You can instant access to thousands of
great applications some free and some
available commercially.
You can also search for apps directly
from the Dash.

Ubuntu One
Launcher->Ubuntu One
Ubuntu One is a service for storing your
files online—in your Ubuntu One Personal
Cloud.
Your Ubuntu One Personal Cloud is your
personal online storage space; it can be
accessed in any web browser or using an
Ubuntu One application, such as those for
Ubuntu, Windows, iPhone, or Android.
You can also use Ubuntu One to share files
with other people—this makes Ubuntu
One a great tool for friends, families, and
collaborative teams.

Customize
How to Change which applications
show in the Launcher.
To add an Application to the Launcher
for easy access.
Open the Dash, find the application
you wish to add to the Launcher, and
Drag the Application’s icon from the
Dash onto the Launcher.

Customize
The Launcher icon order can be changed by
dragging an icon off of the Launcher.
And then back onto it in the desired location.
To remove an application icon from the
Launcher, right click on the application icon
and select Unlock from launcher.

Find apps, files, music and
more with the Dash
The Dash allows you to search
for applications, files, music,
and videos, and shows you
items that you have used
recently.
If you have ever worked on a
spreadsheet or edited an
image and forgot where you
saved it, you will surely find
this feature of the Dash to be
useful.

Search everything from the Dash
home
The first thing you’ll see when opening
the Dash is the Dash home. Without
typing or clicking anything, the Dash
Home will show you apps and files
you’ve used recently.
Only one row of results will show for
each type. If there are more results,
you can click See more results to view
them.

Application Menu
Application Menu
The Application menus are located to
the right of window management
buttons.
Window management buttons
The window management buttons are
on the top left corner of windows,
when maximized, the buttons are in
the top left of the screen.
Click the buttons to close , minimize,
maximize or restore window.

Status menu
Ubuntu has several different status menus
(sometimes referred to as Indicators) on
the right side of menu bar.
The status menus are a convenient place
where you can check and modify the state
of your computer and applications.

Battery status
Network status
Sound status
Clock
System Menu (shutdown)

Battery Status
Checking your laptop battery’s
charging status.
This menu is hidden if a battery isn’t
detected.
You can set Power Management.

Network menu manages
network connections, allowing
you to connect quickly and
easily to a wired or wireless
network.

Sound menu
Sound menu provides an easy
way to adjust the sound volume
as well as access your music
player and sound settings.

Clock menu
Clock displays the current time
and provides a link to your
calendar and time and date
settings.

Session Menu
Session Menu access details about
your computer, Ubuntu Help guide
and system settings.
Switch users, lock screen, log out,
suspend, restart or shutdown your
computer.
If you select shutdown menu,
You can shutdown.

You can change the desktop theme or
wallpaper.
In addition, you can also vary the size
of the launcher icon.

You can set to change the screen
resolution and also multiple display.

System Settings->Network
It is possible to set up a wired or
wireless.
In Setup screen of the network.
you can manually assign an IP
address or automatically.

Backup
System Settings->Backup
Déjà Dup (day-ja-doop) is a simple backup
tool. It hides the complexity of doing backups
the Right Way (encrypted, off-site and
regular) and uses duplicity as the backend.
Features:
Support for local, remote, or cloud backup
locations, such as Ubuntu One.
Securely encrypts and compresses your data
Incrementally backs up, letting you restore
from any particular backup Schedules regular
backups

Memory, Processor, Graphics, OS
type and Disk

System Settings->Software&Update
Ubuntu also allows you to decide how
to manage package updates through
the Updates tab in the Software &
Updates window.
Important security updates are highly
recommended to ensure your system
remains as secure as possible.
Recommended updates and
Unsupported updates
These updates are not as important in
keeping your system secure.

User Accounts
System Settings->User Accounts
Each person that uses the
computer should have a different
user account. This allows them to
keep their files separate from
yours and to choose their own
settings.
You can register and modify user
account.
Account Type is necessary to
select which is administrator or
standard.

Install additional Software
In Ubuntu, the quickest and
easiest way to find and install new
applications is through the Ubuntu
Software Center.
To start the application, click on
the Ubuntu Software Center icon
in the Launcher, or click on the
Dash and search for Ubuntu
Software Center.

When the Ubuntu Software Center
open, search for application, or
select a category and find an
application from the list.
Select the application that you are
interested in and click install.
You will be asked to enter your
password. Once you have done
that the installation will begin.

Remove an application
The Ubuntu Software Center makes it
easy to remove software that you no
longer use.
Click the installed button at the top.
Find the application that you want to
remove by using the search box.
Select the application and remove.
You may be asked to enter your
password. After you have done that,
the application will be removed.
