The questionnaire responses showed that the target audience for the music magazine enjoys indie, pop rock, and alternative rock music. Their favorite artists include Fall Out Boy, Radiohead, and Arctic Monkeys. Most attend individual artist gigs yearly rather than festivals. They are willing to pay £3.99 for the magazine and want to see album reviews, artist news, and interviews featured. Paramore would grab their attention on the cover. Music is an important part of their lives that they listen to daily and many play instruments like guitar and piano.

2. Questionnaire Analysis
I have summarised and concluded the results from my questionnaires that I gave out to
my target audience. These results will help me to decide what my target will look for in
my upcoming music magazine and what I should include to fulfil their needs. My
questionnaire included 11 questions about all related to the target audience’s music
tastes and what they want out of a music magazine.
Question 1: ‘How often do you buy or read a music magazine?’
‘Often’: 3
‘Occasionally’: 16
‘Never’: 3
This tells me that an affordable, interesting and entertaining music magazine needs to be
created. Obviously my magazine will not fulfil the needs of everyone interested in music
magazines but I can create one for the population of those that enjoy the specific genres
of music that will be featured in my magazine.
Question 2: ‘Which of the following are your favourite types of music?’
‘Rock & Roll’: 6
‘Pop Rock’: 8
‘Heavy Metal’: 1
‘Indie’: 11
‘Garage Punk’: 2
The results show me that a percentage of those interested in similar genres of music
favour ‘Indie’ music the most. I will take this into consideration when deciding on what I
will include in the magazine and the genres of music it will come inside.
Question 3: ‘Who is your favourite band/artist and why?’
These are the artists that have were mentioned by
my target audience:
Pink Floyd : 1
Radio Head: 2
Fall Out Boy: 4
Two Door Cinema Club: 2
The Maine: 1
All Time Low: 2
You Me At Six: 1
Linkin Park: 2
Kings of Leon: 2
Jake Bugg: 1
Paramore: 1
Kicking Daisies: 1
Mumford and Sons: 1
Arctic Monkeys: 1
3. I have summarised the overall answers that the target audience came up with and I found
the majority of the opinions of why they like these different artists are similar. For
example, mostly everyone answering these questionnaires agreed that these artists all
produce good music and that they can relate to some of the meanings in these songs. The
listeners find their music is unique and more relatable to life and these artists can also be
influential. The majority find these artists and bands have a raw talent because of their
live music.
Question 4: ‘Which live gigs/ festivals have you attended?’
‘Reading’: 5
‘Glastonbury’: 5
Gigs for individual artists: 16
The audience answering my questionnaires showed me that they prefer to go to individual
gigs for particular artists. This tells me that I should include listings of concert dates in my
magazine, where tickets can be brought and the overall prices of them.
Question 5: ‘How often do you attend live gigs/ festivals?’
‘Weekly’: 2
‘Monthly’: 6
‘Yearly’: 19
Question 6: ‘How much are you prepared to pay for a music magazine?’
‘£2.99-£3.99’: 12
‘£4.00-£5.99’: 8
‘£6.00 or more’: 2
This is how I came up with a reasonable price that the buyers will have to pay to have the
magazine. Even though the audience are going to pick the lowest price as people don’t
have a lot of money these days but the selected price of ‘£3.99’ would cover production
cost with a profit and its affordable fir the audience.
Question 7: ‘Which would you like to see featured in a music magazine?’
‘Interviews’: 7
‘Competitions’: 0
‘Album Ratings’: 10
‘Artist News’: 10
‘Posters’: 7
I asked this specific question so I would be able to get a rough idea of what my target
audience would like to see featured in my music magazine more than other elements that
are usually in a music magazine. For example, my target audience would prefer to see
4. album ratings and news about popular or upcoming artists rather than the chance to be in
competitions.
Question 8: ‘On a magazine front cover, which of the following artists are most likely to
grab your attention first?’
‘Paramore’: 12
‘System of a Down’: 3
‘Fall Out Boy’: 4
‘Good Charlotte’: 0
‘New Found Glory’: 1
‘All American Rejects’: 3
When it comes to designing the front cover and deciding what artists will be included in
the magazine the results of this question gives me a rough idea of what artists the
audience look for. Overall they are successful and known bands like ‘Paramore’.
Question 9: ‘Is music a great part of your life? Why:’
‘Yes’: 22
‘No’: 0
My target audience discussed a few reasons of ‘how’ and ‘why’ music is a great part of
their life. The majority of my target audience said that they listen to music everyday as it
is enjoyable, relaxing and can alter their mood. Not only is music made for entertainment
purposes but van also help the person emotionally. For example, my target audience said
that music helps them to concentrate and become thoughtful by blocking out their
surroundings. It was also said that they can relate to the lyrics as they express the same
emotion and have a reflection of their feelings.
Question 10: ‘How does music feature in your life?’
Many of the target audience said that they have such a passion for music because they
grew up with it, for example many of those that answered the questionnaires play at least
one instrument, and this shows their broad musical side and interest. The targeted
audience said they listen to music throughout the day especially when they are travelling
as it help to develop their mood and thoughts.
5. Question 11: ‘Do you play an instrument? What?’
‘Yes’:
‘No’:
Harmonica: 1
Electric Guitar: 2
Guitar: 3
Piano: 7
Bass Guitar: 1
Recorder: 1
Ukulele: 1
I asked this question as I was curious to see how many people play an instrument and
what sort of instrument they play. This made me consider advertising instruments and
deals available on them in m
