I want to thank you for taking the time to listen to use today. If we are going to accomplish our goal it will take all of working together.
We are a team that is focused on improving the quality of life in our communities. The software company founded by Horace Clemmons established much of the technology that is used in retail today. Eric is a gifted artist that chose to remain in the community rather than pursue a very promising art career. Ryan and Joseph are young men that both graduated at the top of their class and were prepared to go law school, but choose to remain in the community.
We bring to the table the knowledge that helped the large companies understand how to use information and the personal desire to apply that knowledge to make our communities better.
Local companies can not hope to compete against the likes of Walmart and Amazon without the using technology better than they do to win the hearts/minds of the consumer.
Our understanding of the technologies used by the large retailers will allow us to help local retailers better compete.
Bad and going to get much worse

Walmart SuperStores are currently our biggest problem. First we gave them tax breaks to get them to build, now they suck our communities dry, sending all of the money to wealthy corporate stockholders. Let’s take a look at what that has gotten us.
They are driving local business out, but that is only part of the problem. The differential in dollars that stay in the community have a hidden impact that most consumers are not aware of. If spent locally, this money is respent locally over and over. Another aspect is that is loss of additional tax when that money is taken out of the community. The tax revenue from the extra $0.20 on every dollar spent in a Walmart store would support schools, roads and other public services.
The local jobs loss puts even further stress on tax revenue. Think about it 3 jobs lost for every two created. There are many issues here, among them, who takes better care of their people? Someone that sees them in Church every Sunday or large, faceless chains?
How much local tax revenue do we really get after all of the tax incentives given to large chains?
It has only begun.
Gurley is a good example to watch and learn from. Can we guess what is going to happen here? Who will close? How much did the city give away to get them to come in? How many jobs will be lost, how much will this reduce the standard of living in Gurley?
The SuperStore was only the beginning. Large National chains have saturated their markets and are downsizing stores to fit small town America.
Walmart is not our only enemy. Most major retailers have a plan to come into the small town market.
One of our biggest problems is that Consumers are not aware of the negative impacts these operations have on the community.
So what do I mean this is only the beginning.
Look at the public information available on Walmart and other major retail cooperation’s strategy. Basically Walmart and other major retailers have a strategy to move into the smaller markets. If their strategy is successful it will put most local retailers out of business. Walmart also plan to take on Dollar General and Amazon
We must pull all locally owned retailers into a single brand for products and services. We must present the Consumer with one view of local products and services available. This regional brand must also provide us with the ability to market local arts, crafts and agriculture products. Over the long-term we must provide an end to end to end e-commerce engine in order to compete.
This is a key area where I believe Native can have an impact. We can shape the message, ensure that the money you spend on advertising works.
