Personal learning & reflection on Research.
1. Personal Learning & Reflection- Front cover What I have learnt from analysing front covers is that a lot of music magazine front covers have certain items they tend to stick on the front. This would include things like: Covering the mast head with the image, using one main image, sticking to a house style, using artists/bands as their main image and listing all types of artists that are in the magazine in a tour like style. A lot of the front covers have a main story that they have based the front cover on and they do not tend to overload the front cover with other stories (e.g. heat, hello magazine). I can apply this knowledge to my front cover by using the information I have found out to either simulate the same effect or to use an opposite effect in order to make my magazine different from the rest.
2. Personal Learning & Reflection- Contents What I have learnt from my analysis of contents pages is that it is similar in the way to what I have learnt about front covers, a lot of the magazines use a similar layout for contents. For instance they tend to use one main picture (like the front cover, but small of course) and make a main articles in a bigger font so that it is the first thing you see, they also tend to use a different colour/font size for the page numbers so that they stand out and they also like to use sub headings for different stories. I can use this in my work by making sure the specific items I want most attention on stand out and that my page numbers and articles are visible and clear.
3. Personal Learning & Reflection- DP spread What I have learnt from my double page spread analysis is that there are always specifically laid out they will always have a image taking up most of one page and always have a sub-introduction/heading. Most of them explain what the story is about, give some quick facts, or just add some silly puns into the sub-introduction. The article always tends to start with a giant letter, only the first letter or sometimes the first word, this is there so that the start of the article is clear and so that it catches your eye. I will definitely use some of this research to lay out my double page spread and will also use it for some inspiration on how to make my article more eye-catching.
4. Personal Learning & Reflection- Audience Research The audience research I have done was a questionnaire and ‘Find Your Tribe,’ analysis. This research was not shocking or surprising in any way but I did learn that depending on what you like, can make advertising more or less appealing towards you. I found that in the ‘Find Your Tribe,’ analysis, Townies have different ideas about where to go on holiday and what type of jobs persuade them, also that they didn’t like a certain type of music (which was not very helpful to the genre I had chosen, but told me that I needed to maybe not aim at those sorts of people) In my questionnaire I found a similar pattern of how often they listened to music and who they listened to I only asked a few people however I got a response that helped me choose the indie/rock genre for my magazine.
