1. Question 4.Who would be the audience for
your media product?
Question 5. How did you attract/address
your audience?
2. Target Audience
My target audience is mid teen girls. To the left is Laura. She is 16 years old. She is the
type of person who I would think would like to read my magazine. She is currently in
school and most likely has some form of part time job. Even though she is in school she
enjoys socialising and going to concerts more than doing her work. She loves pop
music. Her favourite music artists are One Direction, Taylor Swift and Little Mix. On her
playlist at the moment is One Direction’s new album ‘Made In The AM’. It is all she is
listening to, as they are her all time favourite pop group. This also happens to be the
last album that she purchased. The last concert Laura attended was One Direction ‘On
The Road Again’ tour at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena. Laura enjoys going to many
pop concerts, she has seen One Direction, 5 Seconds Of Summer (5SOS) and Taylor
Swift live. There are many younger people and older people who enjoy the same music
she does. Looking at the artists she likes to listen to makes me think that she will enjoy
my magazine as I have included some of them, and one competition to be able to meet
5SOS.
3. Research:
I asked 15 girls aged 14-17 these following questions:
What type of music do you like to listen to? 13 of them said pop and 2 of them said rock.
How much do you spend on music magazines? All of them said a price between £2.50-£5.00.
Where do you buy them? All of them said a store that has a magazine section with their music magazine genre.
A couple of girls mentioned how they also like to buy them and view the magazine online.
4. Addressing/attracting the audience
I addressed my audience by using appropriate language, and nothing to
complicated for them to not understand. I used a pretty simple vocabulary
but still trying to make the magazine sophisticated. I decided to use a simple
vocabulary as if it was complicated then my target audience would not buy
the magazine, as it would be a waste of money for them to buy something
and to not understand it. The sentences I have used are short and snappy,
quick and easy to read. My cover lines and splash display this.
I attracted my audience by using teenage girl on my front cover. I think that
this attracts my target audience as they will automatically think it is aimed
at girls along with the colours that I have used. The splash on my cover is
the same colour as the cover stars lipstick, the red/pink will attract my
target audience as it is a typical colour you would see on a pop music
magazine. Also girls are attracted to this colour. I think my target audience
will be attracted to my magazine because my cover star is a very pretty girl,
which girls will want to read on about. Also the subheadings can reinforce
that as it is like a lead in to the article.
