The document summarizes the new media technologies used at different stages of a media coursework project. During research, WordPress, Google, Pinterest, and YouTube were used to record research findings, collect ideas, and learn techniques. Planning utilized WordPress, Google Drive, YouTube, and Photoshop. Construction involved a DSLR camera, iPhone, microphone, YouTube, and Photoshop. Evaluation was done using WordPress, PowerPoint, PowToon, Prezi, and SlideShare. Key technologies discussed in more depth include WordPress for blogging, Google for searching, Pinterest for inspiration, YouTube for sharing work, Google Drive for collaboration, camera skills for photography, Photoshop for image editing, and
How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
1. HOW DID YOU USE NEW
MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION, RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND EVALUATION
STAGES?
A Presentation, on technologies throughout all the
stages of my media coursework.
2. TECHNOLOGIES
During the creation of my media product, I have developed and learnt
new skills in technology, which have helped me to improve my
products and introduce me to new ways of approaching research,
planning and the construction of the product.
3. NEW TECHNOLOGIES USE IN THE RESEARCH,
PLANNING, CONSTRUCTION, AND
EVALUATION OF OUR PRODUCTS:
Whilst carry out the research aspect of my products I used technologies
such as, WordPress – to record my research, Google and Pinterest – to
collect ideas/themes relating to my products, YouTube – to research
and watch tutorials in order to help my products be successful
During the planning stage I used WordPress, Google Drive, YouTube
and Photoshop
Constructing the product I used a DLSR Cannon Camera, iPhone,
Microphone, YouTube, Photoshop
For the evaluation of my production I used WordPress, PowerPoint,
PowToon, Prezi and Slide share
4. WORDPRESS
WordPress is a technology I used to create my blog – I began exploring
themes that would suit my product, I am still learning about the site, but I
have previous experience from past blogs, however I still used Google and
YouTube to research parts I was unsure on.
I have learnt many new skills in YouTube, for example, how to make a
creative, professional looking blog using layouts and menus. I can add
interactive links, images and videos easily to my WordPress blog. I have
learnt how to display my blog in a format which is easy for the
viewer/reader to understand.
My WordPress blog is where I have uploaded my documents for my course
work and where I have written up about all the important aspects of each
stage.
5. GOOGLE
Google has been my main search engine throughout the whole project.
It has helped my research and planning run smoothly, allowing me
access to many different websites and helping me collect images well.
I have used Google for years, so I am very familiar with how it works,
which is why I continue to use it, it has helped make the process less
complicated.
I have not learnt many more skills using Google, after exploring it and
using it further, however it is my preferred browser!
6. PINTEREST
I have previously had a personal Pinterest account before I started
media studies, so I am aware on how to collect and ‘pin’ images to
blogs.
Through Pinterest I have learnt the importance of finding images to
create mood boards for research and idea development – it gave me
inspiration for magazine layouts, billboard set-ups, colour themes and
fonts. It was able to show me ways in which others had gone about
creating media products, which was all part of the learning curve.
7. YOUTUBE
YouTube had been very useful to me through my Media Studies course.
I have used YouTube previously, to watch videos such as music or
vlogs, however I have never personally uploaded my own work, apart
from in AS Level Unit.
YouTube is a way of sharing your work with the public, allowing you
perfect opportunities to gain a wide audience for your media products.
It is simple to use, however can be slow at times but overall a great,
interactive website, which is perfect for displaying any sound or moving
visuals.
8. GOOGLE DRIVE
Google Drive is perfect for storing documents. It allows you to great written
documents, presentations, spreadsheets and forms.
I predominantly used Google Drive to create a questionnaire as part of our
primary research. It allows you to create a sophisticated documents, which
you can share with who you require.
Google Forms automatically makes a spreadsheet, collecting all the answers
from the survey.
It is also important to note that this application was all online, making it
efficient and eco-friendly – due to no paper being used. I also believe that
because it was online more people answered the questionnaire because it
was quick and simple.
9. CAMERA SKILLS
During the process of creating my main products I used a DSLR Cannon
Camera, I have leant new camera technologies such as depth of field
and aperture. It is important to explore new camera techniques because
it allows you to be more creative with your photography.
Camera angles are also important to explore, it gives you a different
feel to an image and different things can be shown through different
angles for example, a low angle makes the object feel more dominant. I
used this skill when taking images for my front cover as I wanted it to
be the main focal point.
10. ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
Adobe Photoshop is a technology that allows you to edit and manipulate images. It
gives you a wide variety of tools to use on raw images, such as adding text, blurring
and painting. Therefore giving me an option to change and adapt my images to
their particular need.
I am relatively new to Photoshop, so I requires a lot of help from google, books and
teachers. However once I had learnt how to use the tools I was able to move on
easily.
I have learnt more about layers in Photoshop, and have explore Smart Objects – a
tool which allows you to quickly change an image from on to another.
Throughout media I will continue to use Photoshop. It has helped me engage with
the media industry and my understanding for technology has grown.
11. POWERPOINT
PowerPoint is a technology which allow you to create presentations
which include text, image videos etc.. Which you can then share with
others.
I have used PowerPoint to answers some questions for my evaluation.
PowerPoint allows you to make a creative, visually pleasing outcome
which is not too text heavy yet still demonstrates your main points.
12. POWTOON
PowToon is a technology which I gave used in my previous unit, it
allows you to create animated presentations, in which text, images and
voice overs can be added.
I used PowToon to answer one of my evaluation questions. I was able
to input the information using text and also add images which related.
It is a visually pleasing way of displaying work.
I have learnt from last year, that it is extremely important to visually
present work, if it is interesting it engages the audience, hence the
reason I have made my course work blog fun and interesting.
