3. Today I chose an article of an “17 year-old girl
from Shamattawa First Nation dies from an
overdose while in foster care.
Also a video called “Bad Indian”, by Ryan Red
Corn.

5. The use of drugs is a growing concern in
communities and the overdoses are escalating.
The pills were given to her by a well-known
drug dealer and charges have not been laid.

7. They turn to drugs to help them cope with
their trauma. This is not an isolated incident
and we need to stand up and fight for our
youth and community and say enough is
enough with the drugs.

9. The people who are selling them need to be
charged. We need to educate our communities
of the risks of taking drugs when you don’t
know what is in it and they are not invincible.

11. They are not bad people who use them but
broken suffering from trauma and being
removed from their homes and families and
placed in a non-First Nations home.
