be one-offs)Action

Here are a few TV Dramas and their

• Gilmore Girls- Family
• Emmerdale- Soap Opera
• Misfits- Science Fiction

• The 100- Action/Science Fiction
• The Mentalist- Police
A TV series is where the story continues, e.g.
Game of Thrones- say there will have been a
story told throughout the week and the story
will continue the week after so there is no cliff
hangers even though that makes you want to
watch it more.
A TV serial is where the show is not running into
itself. Once a story has finished, the next time
the show is on it will be a different story.
There are 7 groups of representation:
1) Class
2) Sexuality
3) Disability
4) Regional Identity
5) Age
6) Gender
7) Ethnicity
There are different reasons as to why
people like to watch TV drama. One
reason being that most TV dramas are
on at least everyday or every week so
the actors faces would be recognisable
to anyone who watches them. People
may watch them if they live alone or live
in a care home as they may feel lonely
and they will recognise the faces on the
screen. Also, as there is different types of
drama, so there will more then likely be
a TV drama that would match your
liking.
A research study found that people who
watched dramas scored higher on a test
measuring empathy and social
intelligence than people who watched
documentaries.
TV dramas offer some of the best
storytelling there is because their
numerous episodes give the writers the
opportunity to develop robust characters
the audience grows to love.
Most people watch drama for entertainment
but you sometimes get them one offs that
are based on a true story, e.g. The Moorside
which was about a girl that was kidnapped
by her uncle but the girls mother knew and
made a plan for her and the child’s uncle to
‘find her’ and claim the £50,000 reward ,
then split it between them.
