Unit 66 â 3D Modelling
HA5 â Sidekick Task 1 â Project Charter
Use these prompts to create a written charter for your project.
Skills Audit â Review your strengths and weaknesses and confidence in the following areas:
Project Management
I believe I have very good project management skills. All of my work is presented in a clear and concise
manner which is easy to understand and best shows off my work during this unit. My main weakness during
this unit was probably my time management; although it wasnât bad, I feel I could have left myself more
time for certain parts of the unit i.e the reference modelling.
Research and Ideas Generation
I researched many types and versions of robots and robot companions and gathered many to act as
inspiration for my final design. I was very good at gathering examples of successful robot companions like
the the fallout eyebot, but many were fairly similar, i.e bipedal, silver, etcâŠ
Drawing Techniques
My drawing techniques have improved quite a bit and are now at a good standard. My original design
lacked any fine details so it was pretty bland and I struggled to make the drawing symmetrical, however the
second design was improved greatly with further detail added and a more accurate design that could be
used as a guide in modeller.
Adobe Photoshop
My Photoshop skills are very good. I am able to create imagery and effects using various pictures and
assets. I mainly used it in this course to save print screened images into jpegs for evidence of my work.
Adobe Illustrator
I am very confident in my skills in illustrator. My best strength is creating imagery working from a picture
(for example, my robot) and recreating it in vector graphics. The only thing I sort of struggle with is using
Bezier curves as I can never get the exact curve I need.
NewTek LightWave - Modeler
I feel extremely confident using LightWave modeler. I have a great understanding of the software tools that
are needed to create 3D models and edit them. I also understand the terminology of the software i.e sub
patching, Booleans etc.. The only thing I donât feel completely confident with are some of the advanced
tools under the setup, layers, utilities, selection and view tabs.
Assignment Structure â Ask yourself the following questions:
Are you clear about the timescale available?
Yes, I am working within the time frame and feel confident that I can be finished before the deadline.
Do you understand what elements of the unit are being assessed?
Yes, I read the brief before starting a new task in order to make sure I work within the criteria of the unit.
Do you understand the scenario and the reasons for carrying out the assignment?
Yes, the scenario is that we are meant to be creating a robot companion for the online game, second life.
Have you visited the Second Life community and the SL Market Place? What are your impressions?
I have visited both. The marketplace is a mix of very high quality models and assets and very bad ones.
What is your goal for this assignment?
To create a high quality model that would be of a high standard when compared to the other models on the
marketplace and game.
2. Constraints â What is going to cause you problems in this project (technical, time, legal and ethical issues etc.) and what will you
do to solve these problems?
I think one of the biggest constraints is getting all the evidence together in chronological order and
presenting it all for the production log. Also the short amount of time may prove difficult as well as the
amount of actual modelling that needs to be done.
