Doki Doki Literature Club
Game play
Screen shots
My production will be a role playing game just like Doki Doki literature
club is, for my production I want to include the still background like the
game does and the lack of movement in the characters as well, I want
my characters to move each time a new text box appears with new
dialog inside just like this video game does.
I want similar lighting so the player will be able to see both the
background and characters clearly.
I want my video game to include the text boxes with the names above
like Doki Doki does, I also want the text to appear word by word like
somebody is typing it.
What I want to
include in my
production.

Doki Doki Literature Club
Type of image
The location of the game is set in a Japanese high school however in some scenes it does move to other locations
such as, the streets, students house etc. The angle of the camera if always facing the character as a first person
perspective so the camera would be placed as a mid shot. The effects are very simple, there is a lack of
movement and when the character does moves it will move one frame to lift their hand up or flick their hair, so
over all the characters only move when they next speak.
Lighting & sound
For most of the game the lighting is bright and colourful, mainly consisting of pinks and purples, however when
something bad happens the lighting changes and becomes darker and the colors appear dull. The background
music throughout the game is very joyful and upbeat creating a happy atmosphere in the game, but when
something bad or unexpected is happening or about to happen the music starts to sounds little a glitch, this
could be used as a mechanism for the player so they know something is wrong or they chose the wrong option.
Audience appeal
Role playing games are very popular as you get to escape reality and play as somebody else, Doki Doki does and
amazing job at interacting with the player by breaking the fourth wall, the game does this by addressing you by
you’re name whenever they speak to you, the characters in the game also make direct eye contact with you as if
they are actually speaking to you in real life and finally the game breaks the fourth wall hugely at the end of the
game as one of the characters confesses their love for you, they do this by deleting characters in the game so it’s
just them and you, the character also escapes the game and places love letters into you’re files which freaks
some players out but that’s one of the main reasons why players buy the game, because it breaks the fourth wall.

Undertale

Screenshots
What I want to
include in my
production.
What I like about Undertale that I want to include in my
production is the style of the text boxes and the sound effect the
game makes when the character is talking, this is because when
the text appears the characters speaks however they don’t speak
actual words, it’s like a glitch voice.
What I like about the style of the boxes is the simplicity of them,
they are made up of two colours and are made out of very simple
pixel art so the player is focused on the characters.

Undertale
Type of image
Undertale is set in multiple different locations from bedrooms, bars and outside, all the locations have different
lightings and different atmospheres depending on what will happen in that scenes, for example it could be a
fights scenes meaning the location will be dark and gloomy and the area will be empty ready for the characters
to fight. The angle of the camera is high up looking down at the characters in a third person perspective as the
player controls where the character walks and what they say. The effects of the game are simple as the art style
is pixel.
Lighting & sound
Like I said previously the lighting is different in each location/scene however the majority of the scenes have
dull lighting creating either a gloomy feel or a cozy feel depending on the location. The sound effects
themselves are simplistic but the background music is very up beat especially when you’re in a fight scene, the
music kicks in and plays quite fast, this could be to build the player adrenalin to make them feel excited.
Audience appeal
Undertale is a very popular game mainly because of the characters in the game, each character has their own
unique design and personality. The main reason I think people love the game so much is the humor inside it,
many people find the characters to be funny just by how the characters act and what they say.

The Last Night
Game play
Screen shots
What I want to
include in my
production.
This game is a very high pixelated video game with amazing
graphics, for my video game I would love to recreate this art
style in my video game but possible with not as much detail as
this game does as I know it would take to long resulting in me
not being able to finish my production.

The Last Night
Type of image
The location of the game is set in either Japan or China I’m assuming as the signs seem to be in that style of
language. The camera angel of the game is set to a mid point level as the camera follows the character as they
run and jump through the game. The overall effects in the game are detailed as the art style is also detailed, for
example when the character runs/walks the hair on his head also moves with him and when the character pulls
out a weapon it looks quite realistic considering it’s a pixelated game.
Lighting & Sound
Overall the lighting in the game is dark as it is set during the night, however the vibrant colours from the neon
signs and the car lights stand out and reflect onto the puddles in the game create a realistic atmosphere that
simply looks amazing. As the game hasn’t been fully released yet and there are no game plays of the game I
can’t really talk about sound effects or the background sound, however I can assume that they will probably
have realistic sounds such as footsteps, cars driving in the distance, gun shots, rain etc.
Audience appeal
Because no one has played the game before I can’t research why people enjoy playing it however I can go on
the comments people have made to the trailer of the game, many people are saying they love the art style of
the game describing it as ‘beautiful’ and ‘mesmerizing’ , what I can gather from this is that the visuals of the
game play a key part in why people want to buy/watch/play the game,

Monkey island
Game play
Screen shots
What I want to
include in my
production.
What I like about this game is the amount of choices you
have for each segment of the game, for example it might let
you chose for multiple different text boxes of what to say to
another character and depending on what you chose
depends what will happen next, or the options could even be
an action, if you’re in a fight with another character the game
might give you options of what to do to them like a punch or
a kick.
This is what I would like to include into my game as I fell like it
gives the play an opportunity to write there own story, plus
they can play the game over and over again to try and find all
the different outcomes.

Monkey Island
Type of image
The game is set on Monkey Island which is an island full of pirates, the game shows that it’s set on an island by
showing the lack of land and the amount of sea that surround them. The angle of the camera varies depending
if the character is just walking around or if the character has entered some kind of special area, but mainly the
camera angle is at a mid point level following the character. To say the game is quite old the effects are well
made, each frame for each action has been drawn perfectly, there are no slip ups and the actions run smoothly
and show clearly what the character is doing.
Lighting & Sound
The overall lighting of the game fits the game perfectly, when it is late at night the sky turns blue/black, the
surroundings become dark and gloomy and the small amount of light that pears through the window is from
the moon. When it’s day time everything is bright and sunny and the sun light will come through the windows
brightening the whole room. As for sound effects everything fit’s the actions perfectly, when the characters are
talking the voice actors sound clear and show emotion through just their voice, when the characters are puling
out their weapons you can hear the sound of it coming out of it’s holder from the side of the character.
Audience appeal
I think this game appeals to the audience as it gives the character a chance to create their own story with the
amount of choices they get to choose from, the player also gets to start the game all over again and choose
different choices that gets different outcomes, this allows the player to see and create different ending for the
game and possibly seeing all the different outcomes for the game.
10. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products
have?
All the games have some kind of action in them, either if that’s you as the player actually
fighting someone or another character in the game is fighting over you, the games also
have dark lighting in them and dull colours to make the games seem more ‘scary’ or
dramatic. Another feature I want to include in my production is the background music that
these games use, they seem to have different music for different situations, for example if
something bad is going to happen the song will change to something dramatic and upbeat
to let the player know something is going to happen.
• What aspects of the research will you include within
your own work?
I would like to include the multiple choice options from Monkey Island.
I want to include the art work from The Last Run.
I would like to include the boxes out of Undertail.
I want to include the still background and character movements from Doki Doki

2. Undertale(2015)
3. The Last Night(2020?)
4. Monkey Island(1990)
Before we started this production I did research about video games, I
researched the many different types of video game and what a typical game
of that genre would include, I also watched some videos of experts who’s
job it is to make video game actual plan out how they make it from the
storyline of the game to the art work and the sound effects.
