In AS,I createda college magazine andamusicmagazine. InA2, we are creatinga film
traileranda filmposter.Inthese twoyears,Ihave developedmyresearchandplanningskills.
We didthe preliminarytaskwhichwascreatingthe collegemagazine tohelpustogetused
to usingPhotoshop,aprogramme thatwe had neverusedbefore. We didatextual analysisandI
thinkthat thishelpedme toplanwhatthe layoutof my magazine shouldlooklikeandhow Icould
make it looklike similarmagazinesbyusingthe same conventions.Iusedthe internettolookat
Google imagesof an example of college andmusicmagazinesbut one examplewasn’tenoughandin
the secondyear,I lookedatmore examplestogive me more ideas.
We alsohad to dothe audience researchbyaskingfriends throughsocial mediawhatthey
thoughtaboutdifferentmusicmagazines.However,Idon’tthinkthatthiswas a goodideabecause I
didn’tknowanyone thatreadsmusicmagazinessothisdidn’thelpbutthiswassomethingthatIwas
toldto do.I couldhave done more researchbylookingatthe internetatthe reviewsof magazines
howeverthisstill mightnothave helpedme getthe researchthatIneeded.
I had to do a publishinghouse case studyand anaudience profile.Even thoughI don’tthink
that doingthese helpedme toplanmymagazine,theyhelpedme toanswerthe evaluation
questions.
I feel asthoughI have researchedandplannedthe horrortrailertaskvery well.Iwatched
three differenthorrorfilmsanddidfilmcritstogetideas and influences of whatthe trailercouldbe
about. One of the filmsthatI watchedwasDawn of the Dead and the sub- genre thatI chose to do
for the horror traileriszombie sobywatchingthisfilmithelpedme todecide locations,characters
and costumes. I alsowatchedlotsof horror trailersonYouTube to see whata trailerneededto
have. I developedmyideabydrawingastoryboard.Thisstoryboardhelpedme toknow what types
of shotswe were goingtouse,the durationof the shotsand itgave me an ideaof whatit wouldlook
like insteadof picturingthe trailerinmyhead.I made an animaticof the storyboardbecause this
helpedme tosee whatthe trailerwouldlike withhorrorsoundsaddedanditwaseditedsothatthe
timingof the shotswouldbe the same as the actual trailersothat I couldsee if the trailerlookedlike
it hadenoughfootage andif the trailermade sense. Sowhenwe were filmingforthe horrortrailer,
we knewwhattypesof shotsthat we were goingto filmsothismade it easierandquickerforusto
shootas it wasdetailed.
Furthermore,asa class,we lookedatthe theoryand inferredmeaningsinhorrorfilmsas
whenyounormallywatchhorrorfilmsyoudon’tunderstandwhattheyare reallyaboutsoby
lookingathiddenmeanings,ithasmade us thinkaboutwhatthe hiddenmeaningsof ourtrailers
are.As mediastudents,we have triedtochallengeconventionsof ahorror filmforexample inthe
horror trailerthatmy grouphave made,we challenge the conventionof afinal girl alwaysbeingina
slasherhorrorfilmbyhavinga final girl inour zombie trailer.
