Camera buying project
1. Ellia Pannett
Everyone appreciates a good quality picture, but not every camera can offer
that. When considering what cameras to purchase, it’s necessary to look for specific
qualities in them.
The first thing to consider is whether or not a DSLR or point-and-shoot camera is best
for you. Although DSLR cameras are thought as better than point-and-shoot, it really
just depends on the individual’s preference. The main difference between the two is
how you view the image you’re about to take. A DSLR allows you to view the image as
the camera will view it; while a point-and-shoot gives you a general idea as to how the
camera views it. DSLRs have great image quality, adaptability, speed, large ISO range,
manual controls, depth of field, and quality optics; but don’t let all that fool you, they
also have some cons along with all those pros such as price, size and weight,
maintenance, noise, complexity, and no Live LCD (an option that allows you to frame
your shots without looking through the viewfinder). As for a point-and-shoot camera,
they have some pros that the DSLR doesn’t have. They have good size and weight, quiet
operation, auto mode, price, and LCD framing; but they lack image quality, speed,
reliance upon LCD, they also have a smaller ISO range, limited manual controls, and are
less adaptable. Both cameras can be good for anyone; it all depends on the individual’s
needs, and preferences as to which camera they should buy. Personally, I’d prefer a
DSLR camera because I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and would prefer a heavier camera
with good image quality over a small camera with lower quality.
2. Three great camera brands are Nikon, Canon, and Panasonic; these companies
are very popular, and well known for their cameras. Nikon makes cameras for both
professionals and the average-Joes. Many of their cameras are praised and
recommended from anyone. Canon is much like Nikon in the way that they both get
much praise, and recommendation. Canon’s cameras have their own unique quality that
sets them apart from other cameras. Panasonic may not be as publicized but they still
have good quality cameras. The reason why they may not be so popular could be the
price. Panasonic’s cameras can get pricey, but then again, many cameras are pricey
these days.
If I had no limit on price, I’d buy a Nikon Coolpix L120 because of its good quality
and similarity to a DSLR. It has a price average of about $250 more or less depending on
where you buy it. It has a lot of manual controls allowing the photographer to capture
the picture how they want it. Not only can you capture photos, but you can take videos
too. It also has a higher ISO sensitivity. This camera didn’t have a very good review from
CNet editors, but consumers loved it. The Nikon Coolpix has many manual features, just
like a DSLR camera, such as face detection, Hybrid VR image stabilization (reduces image
blur from camera shake and vibration), and white balance modes (adjusts the lighting in
the image). This camera is great for photographers looking for a camera that has manual
adjustments, give your images a professional look, and have a lower budget.
3. When buying a camera, the top two best places are Amazon.com (ranked # 1) and Best
Buy (ranked #2). The two have great reviews when it comes to buying a camera, both
have great return policies, online store selection, and quality of service overall.
