Objective
To utilize my experience in program coordination, my Bachelor of Liberal Studies (focus
on Preterm/Small for Gestational Age infants, Early Intervention, and Education), and my
Masters of Science Special Education (Early Childhood), to obtain a long-term position
with a Memphis based organization that will value my diverse professional background. I
have personal and professional experience with people of all ages that have all types of
disabilities. I have experience hiring, training, and placing personal care staff to assist
people with disabilities in achieving their highest level of independence. I have managed
and coordinated literacy programs for people with intellectual and developmental
disabilities, programs for youth and young adults with all types of disabilities, and
programs that promote community awareness through the arts. I have assisted people
with disabilities in furthering their education, starting their careers, and achieving
personal goals. I have personal and professional experience and knowledge of ADHD,
mental illness, early intervention, different teaching and learning styles and approaches,
and multi disciplinary teaching. My experience, passion, and creativity have made me a
very effective advocate, teacher, trainer, presenter, and communicator.
I was recently a breakout speaker (2013), participated in 2014 SCS Transitional Fair at
Colonial Middle School, and have participated in many education fairs and expos. I
attended Partners in Policy Making 2012/2013 in Nashville. My Project Next Chapter
Book Clubs was featured in The Commercial Appeal in January 2013 and boasted ten
book clubs in the Memphis community helping improve literacy for some members who
do not qualify or cannot afford to participate in other literacy programs. My youngest
daughter and myself were the basis for a training seminar at the Urban Child Institute on
the importance of the RBI in Early Intervention which people from TEIPs, LEAD, and
other programs attended. We were also part of Methodist LeBonheur and United Way
Success Stories of Early Intervention in 2011.
I believe that people should have equal access to everything that they need to be their
absolute best socially, mentally, spiritually, intellectually, and physically, and I want to
protect, advocate, and provide for their rights. I use my passion to increase education,
vocation, and independence in our community.

Personal experience with youth/young adults and children with

Youth/ Young Adult Program Coordination
-Coordinator of four programs for youth and young adults with disabilities of all types.
Programs included leadership programs for youth 12-17 years old,
leadership/advocacy/social programs for young adults focusing on life skills,
independence, and self-advocacy, and a program of community awareness through the
arts.
3. Literacy Program Coordinator
-Coordinator of community-based literacy and social program for adolescents and adults
with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Book clubs included four to eight people with a wide range of reading skills and abilities.
Members and facilitators socialized with people outside of their own personal book club
and got ideas for new books to read at coordinated social events. My goal was to remove
any barriers that prevented a member from fully participating in and enjoying the Next
Chapter Book Clubs. I acquired large print and incorporated new technology to enhance
our clubs.
