2. In general, the film in which the country is produced is usually the
demographic. However this is not always the case. An example of this is by
British director Edgar Wright who directed the 2004 horror comedy film
Shaun of the Dead. The British film made ÂŁ1.6 million on its opening
weekend in the UK but had a limited release in the US due to its British
humor that may not appeal to an American audience.
However Wright has recently released the film Baby Driver which stars a
mainly American cast and is set in America. Not only this but the genre is an
action/crime thriller meaning the narrative style is much more intense instead
of comedic. As a result, despite Wright being a British director, the film was
majorly popular in Britain, USA and many other countries.
NATIONALITY
3. This shows how films can appeal to people outside of the country that film
was made and therefore the nationality of my audience is not likely to be very
specific. Also, if I narrowed down my audience to one nationality, I could be
limiting demographic unnecessarily.
As a result, I have decided that I want my film to appeal a variety of
nationalities. However it is important that everyone that is in my demographic
can speak English as this will be necessary to understand the narrative of the
film. This is because psychological thrillers tend to have complex narrative and
they can sometimes be set in scientific settings. This could make it difficult for
non-English speaking people to understand.
