The passive Voice in english 
Eduardo González Fernández
When do we use passive voice? 
● When the focus is on the action 
● When the actor is unknown 
● When the actor is irrelevant 
● When you are talking about a general truth
The form of the passive voice 
Subject + auxiliary verb(to be)+past particible + object
Examples: Present simple 
Subject + am/are/is + participle + object 
● Active: Mary eats an icecream. 
● Pasive: An icecream is eaten by Mary. 
● Active: Nick reads a book. 
● Pasive: A book is read by Nick.
Examples: Present continuous 
Subject + am/are/is + being + participle + object 
● Active: Mary is eating an icecream. 
● Pasive: An icecream is being eaten by Mary. 
● Active:Nick is reading a book. 
● Pasive:A book is being read by Nick.
Examples: Past simple 
Subject + was/were + participio + object 
● Active: Mary ate an icecream 
● Pasive: An icecream was eaten by Mary 
● Active: Nick read a book. 
● Pasive: A book was read by Nick
Example: Present Perfect 
Subject + have/has been participle + object 
● Active:Mary has eaten an icecream. 
● Pasive: An icecream has been eaten by Mary. 
● Active:Nick has read a book. 
● Pasive:A book has been read by Nick.
Examples: Past perfect 
Subject + had+been+participle + object 
● Active: Mary had eaten an icecream. 
● Pasive: An icecream had been eaten by Mary.

Examples: Future (will) 
Subject, + will+be+participle +, object 
● Active: Mary will eat an icecream.

Subject + are/is+going to be+participle + object

Subject +(can,must,may)+be+participle + object
