- APA and MLA are two of the most commonly used citation styles. This video will provide you the differences between the two styles of referencing.
- It was established by American Psychology Association in 1929 to help authors in structuring their work and creating a unique style of references and citations. The main idea behind its creation was not to distract a reader but to provide the most comprehensive text with proper headlines and a list of references.
- MLA style was developed by the Modern Language Association for literary research and scientific work. MLA is more detailed when it comes to referencing. This style is commonly used to cite sources within the fields of humanities and arts.
- They both use parenthetical citations to cite sources in the text. However, they do have slight differences. An APA in-text citation includes the author’s last name and the year of publication. You also add a page number if you are paraphrasing a specific passageAn MLA in-text citation includes the author’s last name and a page number.
- Both styles require the author to provide full details of all cited sources on a separate page at the end of the document. In APA the list of sources is called the reference list.
