Provided analysis, advice and support across a team of around 20 staff who delivered over 100 energy
improving projects to businesses across NZ worth tens of millions of dollars every year. Reported
directly to GM business team, with strong ties to government relations and research team.
Achievements
Co-ordinated the annual business planning process; ensured a good drill-down from strategic objectives
to SOI, Business Plan, and cross team KPI’s (two years running). The result was a tight, integrated plan
that explained the nature of EECA’s business activities and the resource allocation to each area. All
planning deadlines were met, and outputs were produced to a higher level of detail, with a more clear and
robust basis than in previous years (e.g. progress indicators were less ambiguous, and were able to be
displayed and updated regularly).
Collated information from project managers and databases in order to create monthly, quarterly & annual
reports for the team, Minister and Board. These reported achievements against all financial & non-
financial goals, along with year-end position forecasts and actions against various goals.
Provided weekly briefing notes to the Minister’s office on any topical achievements, along with risks and
mitigating actions.
Co-ordinated monthly accruals reporting across program managers
Completed a system-wide review of customer relationship management (CRM) database with a goal to
upgrade the current operating software, with training and expansion across the rest of the organisation.
Project proposal was completed on-time, but postponed due to budget constraints.
Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority 2008 – 2012
Senior Technical Advisor: Standards & Compliance
Provided ongoing information and support to consumers and manufacturers/importers regarding a
range of over twenty different energy using pieces of equipment, as well as suitable improvements
to the building envelope of domestic homes and commercial properties.

This included daily responses to telephone, email, call-centre, web and Facebook enquiries.
Achievements
Pushed through new legislation during a period of political hiatus. Achieved through liaising by email,
phone and face-to-face with representatives from EECA, the Minister’s office, Standards New Zealand,
and the manufacturing industry. Anticipated questions, delivered answers and trained and mentored for
clear understanding and decision making. As a result, the amendment was signed and passed in record
time, and the reputation of the organisation was enhanced within New Zealand and Australia.
Conducted ‘in the field’ surveillance and training in order to improve the compliance of regulated energy
using products in retail outlets across the country.
Liaised with Trans Tasman governments, industry stakeholders and Standards NZ. Developed fair and
robust appliance testing methods, and introduced legislation for the sale of energy efficient products. This
resulted in consumers being able to make informed decisions and buying products that are energy
efficient.
Carried out annual statistical analysis to evaluate the successes and achievements of the program against
SOI targets, along with providing consumer information on ‘EnergySpot’ TV infomercials and Energywise
website.
Provided technical advice and support as necessary to implement and revised “Best Practice” guidelines
and goals in terms of energy efficiency and equipment performance – this included information with
regards to the energy rating labels and ENERGY STAR® products programmes which in turn helped
consumers make better informed purchase decisions.
Assisted in the program design and roll-out of a nationwide efficient residential water heating program.
Co-authored and peer-reviewed technical information provided to Minister (OIA inquiries, Parliamentary
Questions and briefings) and consumers (via website and factsheets).

Regional Project Manager
Responsible for project management of the capital investment program over three sites (Wellington,
Palmerston North and Napier) for a wide range of new and refurbished plant, equipment and
building renovations.
Achievements
Managed risk register (Health & Safety, and environmental) – ensured all regulatory standards in the
workplace were met, and carried out necessary and best practice improvements.
Maintained customer focus – ensured that all equipment installations and system upgrades occurred with
a nil operating-impact to production schedules.
Completed a safety review of equipment following an incident, and within 18 hours had liaised with OSH,
site staff and maintenance crew and implemented a temporary safety upgrade. Identified a long-term
solution which was subsequently rolled out to all equipment at this, and similar sites around the country.
Carried out a stocktake of retired equipment from redundant plants, and designed the floor layout and
process in order to re-utilising this equipment at other sites. This increased product throughput and
allowed new product ranges to be introduced.
