Why Rare Breed?
Mentoring is a delicate business that
requires not only aptitude, skill and
respect, but hands-on experience.
There are some great mentors out there
working to set formal methods – and it
is certainly one path to consider. But if
you want to be pushed to succeed –
by someone with a proven track record
– then you need a rare breed.
After many successful years in senior
roles within media and marketing,
I am now helping others achieve their
potential. Having spent 40 years getting
the most out of people to achieve
business objectives, while ensuring
their own goals were met to drive their
personal development, I am a skilled
and insightful mentor.

More than anything, mutual respect
and a good connection are key in a
mentor-mentee relationship. I conduct
free discovery sessions to allow you
to check I will be the right fit for you.
•	My mentoring is based on 40 years of
running businesses. I do not work to
abstract theoretical paradigms, what you
will get from me is all practical and all
based on proven experience. Text-book
mentoring has its place – but it is not my
style. I offer you hands-on experience.
•	If you’re just after an ego boost you’ve
come to the wrong place. I am direct
and very honest – no fluff, no flattery,
I’ll give it to you straight. And that’s
what will get you results.
•	I am not just your mentor, I am your
advisor, your guide, your friend. I will
walk along side you as you face your
toughest business and life challenges.
•	I understand in business things can come
up any time. So I am always available to
talk outside of designated sessions.
•	I will not make decisions for you.
But I know how to guide you to find
the right answer.
•	At the outset we will set mutually
agreed goals and values – it is a two-
person journey.
•	While listening is key, I won’t just listen
to you talk, you’ll get tangible feedback
and advice. More than that, I will reach
beyond what you say to draw out factors
you may not even have considered.
•	I genuinely care. Mentoring isn’t just a
business to me, it’s a way of life. I derive
great pleasure from helping others’
succeed and you’ll know you are more
than just a name in an appointment
book to me.

About me
My career began in the publishing industry in London
as an office junior when I was 20 and ambitious.
Within 12 years I rose to CEO and sold the company
to Robert Maxwell (Daily Mirror Group). I spent three
years working with Maxwell before moving to Australia
to help establish Text Media.
Text Media was an extraordinary experience, offering
me the chance to work with a team of talented young
men and women and help build a hugely successful
business. Following Text, I joined IPMG (Federal
Publishing Company) as Acquisitions Director, and
through a variety of launches and acquisitions it
became a highly successful magazine company.
After the sale of IPMG I joined Edge as CEO in 2007.
Edge began as a publishing company and grew
to become one of the leading custom publishers
in Australia. The rapidly changing media landscape
made me realise that although print would always
play a significant role in the media industry, Edge
needed to diversify its operations. We transformed
the business and embraced digital media long before
many of our peers. Today Edge is a leading content
agency with clients that include AAMI, Optus
and Westpac.
In 2014 I sold my interest in Edge and stepped down
as CEO. I remain a consultant to the business and
mentor several executives.
Over the years, the one thing that has been constant
in my career has been a passion for helping ambitious
individuals reach their potential, and it is now my
pleasure to make this offering available through Rare
Breed Consulting.
