EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
ACORD Corporation (7/2012 to 11/2014)
Standards Architect: In this role, I was responsible for acting as liaison with the business architects in the insurance
domains which ACORD supports (Life Annuities and Health, Property and Casualty, and Reinsurance). The focus was on
ensuring that similar business concepts across the domains were modeled coherently in the language of the domain. I was
also responsible for establishing a standard modeling paradigm for each business area using the UML standards, including
Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN).
I was also a core member of the ACORD Framework team. The ACORD framework is an additional offering by ACORD,
which builds on three aspects: Business Glossary, Business Capabilities and an Information Model. The framework is
modeled entirely in UML.
I represented ACORD at the quarterly technical meetings held by the Object Management Group (OMG), the secretariat for
the UML/BPMN standards. I was actively involved on several revision task forces (RTF), as well as primary architect for
the efforts to a standard modeling notation for ontology, based on OWL2.
I also provided member training, as required. By conducting pre-training interviews with interested parties, I was
responsible for developing a custom syllabus and traveling to member locations to present the material.
MassMutual: IT Effectiveness Initiative EA Team (3/2011 to 7/2012)
Enterprise Architect: In 2010, MassMutual embarked on an initiative to improve the effectiveness of IT. This initiative
introduced game changing transformations, evolving the IT organization making it more cost competitive and aligned with
business needs. Looking across all IT disciplines, an existing Enterprise Architecture (EA) practice was enhanced to lead-
by-example, focusing on business domain advocacy.. Partnering with an external consultancy, the EA team had two
objectives: immediately move the EA practice to a managed maturity level with the expectation that our changes would
allow the practice to evolve to a defined level over time. The other objective was to gain influence with the other
disciplines to integrate EA into ITSM and SDLC.

Our team developed process maps and applied Lean Six Sigma techniques to document and improve our internal
governance process. I regularly participated in Voice of the Customer sessions to discover processes that were not
understood and/or inefficient.
Another driver of ITE was to transform the EA organization from project based architectures to capability-based
architectures that are aligned with business stakeholder needs and the view of the business.
MassMutual: Enterprise Architecture Services, Springfield, MA (6/2005 to 3/2011)
Enterprise Architect/Solution Architect: I moved from the local architect position at MMLISI to a member of the
enterprise architecture team. In this capacity I worked on several strategic initiatives, including: replacing the
broker/dealer back office system, legacy modernization, data cleanup and a forklift replacement of the customer-servicing
platform.
During this period, I was instrumental in developing MassMutual’s Information Architecture practice and worked to blend
it with the burgeoning SOA practice—establishing an industry recognized governance process. I and other members of EA
became champions of this governance. We adopted the usage of ACORD LAH XML as our messaging standard. I
represented MassMutual in several ACORD working groups, and acted as the Co-Chair of the Life Architecture Working
Group.
MML Investor’s Services (MMLISI), Springfield, MA (5/2000 to 6/2005)
Senior Systems Analyst/Systems Consultant : While at MMLISI, I progressed from java/web developer to the local
Solution Architect. This role required me to be able to communicate, at a project management level, with various groups
within the company. I consulted on all major projects and interfaced with various MassMutual Information Systems entities
to solveday-to-day technical issues.
Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, Springfield, MA (6/98 to 5/2000)
Senior Systems Analyst: Assigned to the Unix Engineering team. Primary focus was on the MassMutual Voice Response
Unit (VRU) system for capacity planning and system administration. I also was involved with system administration on
other MassMutual UNIX platforms.
With my telephony background, I was the central contact with the Voice Engineering group for all matters related with
UNIX team.
Periphonics Corporation, Bohemia, NY (3/97 to 6/98)
Field Service Engineer: Responsible for maintaining, servicing and installing computer systems and TCP/IP networks in
the Hartford, CT and Springfield, MA Areas. Periphonics (now part of Lucent) is a supplier of premium Voice Response
Units (VRUs).
Lockheed-Martin Tactical Defense Systems, Bloomfield, CT (6/87 to 3/97)
From 1991 to 1996, I was involved with the Next Generation Weather Radar project (NEXRAD; WSR-88D). Positions held:
Programmer, NEXRAD Support Center, Bloomfield, CT (6/96 to 3/97)
Lead Engineer, NEXRAD Installation and Checkout, Bloomfield, CT (1/93 - 6/96)
Test Supervisor, NEXRAD Factory Support, Bloomfield CT (1/91 - 1/93)
Field Engineer, Technical Support Services, San Diego CA (6/87 - 1/91)
