Application of an Enzyme Alginogel® for treatment of
oncological wounds after radiotherapy.
• When faced with radiation dermatitis caused by
radiotherapy after surgical oncology, it is important
to obtain as quickly as possible a favorable wound
bed preparation with complete healing.
• The aim of this study is to demonstrate that the use
of an Enzyme Alginogel® is an enormous surplus and
provides comfort to the patient who has to deal
with a painful wound.
• Wound care is further complicated by tracheostomy
in the area of the wound bed which hampers the
fixation of dressings in the region of the throat.

• A 60-old male patient was treated for a laryngeal
carcinoma, a moderately differentiated
squamous cell carcinoma with bilateral jugular
gland metastasis.
• After removal of the jugular glands, the patient
was further treated by post-operative
radio-chemotherapy. Radiation dermatitis
developed at the height of the throat and the
trachea-bronchial region.
• The Enzyme Alginogel® combined with a one-
sided silicone wound contact layer was an ideal
dressing for this difficult to shield region.

• The Enzyme Alginogel® based on alginates and an
antimicrobial enzyme system, debrided the
wound.
• Tissue granulation and full epithelialization were
achieved within 22 days followed by continuous
hydration of the irradiated region.
• By use of an Enzyme Alginogel® the wound healing
process progressed without complications.
• A comfortable patient mobility was obtained
during the whole healing process.
