3. Removing debris plug from Leaburg Dam(January 2011) EWEB crews cleared large clump of logs, root wads and other debris that blocked the Leaburg Dam's No. 1 roll gate following heavy rains in mid-January.
4. The debris, including logs measuring more than 100 feet in length, started gathering against the roll gate following heavy rains, unseasonably warm temperatures and rapid mountain snowmelt.
5. Working with Eugene-based construction contractor Wildish Co., EWEB brought in an excavator with an extended-reach arm to dislodge the debris blocking the gate.
6. Good Earth Home, Garden and Living Show (January 2011) Customers visited EWEB’s booth to talk with energy management specialists about how to save money and energy in their homes.
8. University of Oregon Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Opening of Chris Jordan’s “Running the Numbers” exhibition(January 2011) The JSMA is one of three art museums in the U.S. testing LED lighting in gallery spaces thanks to a partnership of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Gateway Program, EWEB and the Bonneville Power Administration. The LED lighting made its debut at the opening of the Chris Jordan exhibition, which deals with consumption and conservation themes.
9. Relocating an osprey nest (February 2011) EWEB and the Oregon Department of Transportation teamed up to relocate an osprey nest to a new platform on top of a 120-foot pole.
10. By moving the nest to a safer location, the ospreys should stay away from dangerous lighting towers and high-voltage electric transmission lines.
11. EWEB turns 100(March 2011) March 11 marked the 100th anniversary of the first meeting of the Eugene Water Board. Banners commemorating EWEB’s centennial can be found around town, including on the Ferry Street Bridge.
12. Honoring our past and building a utility for the next century were dual themes of a celebration held on March 11 to commemorate EWEB’s 100th year of operations. To help honor the past, the event was held in EWEB’s old warehouse.
13. EWEB Commissioner John Simpson applauded employees, past and present, for their service to the community.
14. Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy spoke about EWEB’s leadership in conservation and key role in the city’s sustainability efforts.
15. “Global futurist” Jack Uldrich was the keynote speaker at the event. He spoke about future trends, innovation and adapting to the rapid pace of technological change.
16. EWEB energy specialist Mark Tuffo shows off an electric vehicle public charging station. EWEB welcomes the arrival of electric vehicles and is excited and prepared to work with EV owners.
