1. COMPARISON OF PROTEASOME
CONCENTRATION IN PLASMA
AND SERUM IN HEALTH
VOLUNTEERS AND MULTIPLE
MYELOMA PATIENTS.

2. PROTEASOME
• Non-lysosomal proteolytic complex in all eukaryotic cells.
• The elementary function of the proteasomes is degradation
damaged proteins.
• Proteasome inhibition conducts to accumulation this protein,
which leads to caspase activation and cell death.

3. AIM
The comparison method designated proteasome
concentration in blood plasma and serum in
health volunteers and multiple myeloma patients
in order to determine the usefulness one of the
two biological materials.

4. MATERIALS AND METHOD
• The study included 30 patients treated for multiple myeloma
(14 females and 16 men; median age 64), before treatment, after
3 cycle and 6 cycle induction therapy, and 32 healthy volunteers
(13 females, 19 men; median age 63).
• Blood was collected into two tubes: one with trisodium citrate
(3,2%) (plasma) and one with clot activator (serum). Samples were
collected at the Department of Haematology at the Medical
University of Bialystok, Poland.
• The study was approved by the Ethics Committee at the Medical
University of Bialystok.

5. Proteasome concentrations in the plasma was measured using
commercial test (20S/26S Proteasome ELISA Kit, Enzo Life
Science).

The correlation plasma and serum proteasome concentration with
a selection of prognosis parameters in patients with multiple myeloma.

10. CONCLUSION
The plasma is better biological material for
measured proteasome concentration than
serum in multiple myeloma patients.
