Friends!
We have been preparing this story for you all year. You could say
it is a guidebook into the world of Dyvovyzhni (“The Wonder-
fuls”). Truly, all our steps are parts of a big shared path! We write
the strategy like we draw a map. We implement our projects –
and thus discover new locations. We build partnerships – and
thus invite fellow travelers to hit the road with us.
In this guidebook, we have collected stories about the entire
scope of our work in 2017. It proved impossible to encompass
absolutely everything. But the most important milestones on our
way will show you where we are headed.
So, we are happy to invite you to this sincere conversation about
our challenges and achievements, quests and findings. We glad-
ly share the experience we have gained on the road with other
travelers – and plans for 2018, of course. Let’s stay on this exciting
path of positive changes in our country together!
Sincerely yours,
Dyvovyzhni

OUR PROJECTS
Wonderful Union of CSOs
A three-month project in Zaporizhzhia and Berdiansk aimed at building
communication and collaboration between the local civil society organiza-
tions. The primary target organizations were the ones working with IDPs,
but the project was open to everyone.
The project was held in three stages:
meeting each other
at “quark breakfasts”:
discussing problems and challenges
in the work of CSOs at informal
get-togethers;
the forum Common Denominator:
lectures and work in “world cafés,”
where social sector experts shared
important knowledge and skills
on how to build partner relations
with various stakeholders: local
authorities, the international com-
munity, other CSOs;
a series of 3 trainings
based on the current requests.
2 3
Wonderful Union of CSOs became a communication platform
where everyone could be heard.
It was not the end of our work in Zaporizhzhia: in April, August and
December, we held lectures for activists about challenges of contemporary
leadership and effective use of social media to inform the public on our
work.

Social Collider 2.0
In physics, a collider is an accelerator of charged particles.
Social Collider is an educational program for potential leaders.
It accelerates ideas. When they collide, energy is released in both cases!
The program aims at providing
active citizens who have interest-
ing social ideas but no experience
of their implementation with the
necessary knowledge and tools.
After last year’s work in Zaporizh-
zhia and Dnipro, Collider has now
started working in Mariupol and
Sievierodonetsk.
Having gotten charged with theory
and practice, 30 participants
have organized their own socially
important events (which was most-
ly their first experience with it)
for over 300 citizens.
During a month and a half, they organized

uCRAZYans
The uCRAZYans festival is a city celebration where citizens find out about
civil society organizations, projects and initiatives in their city and nation-
wide; about the exciting work that they do; and about the fact that one can
join them – and make change together.
Participants get all information
through games and communication.
An interactive museum, a social
quest game, lectures in various for-
mats provide new skills, ideas, and
help to meet new people.
Work on uCRAZYans includes:
▶▶ social research, meetings with
activists to understand the
peculiar characteristics of each
city;
▶▶ close collaboration with local
initiatives in every city;
▶▶ follow-up on partnerships and
exchange of practices after the
event – informal meetings with
engaged activists (“smoothie
parties”), educational working
trips for them (NGO tours).
Our big sign-off was the Betrayal
Night in Kyiv and Victory Night
in Zhytomyr, dedicated to discus-
sion of failures in the social sector –
in the most informal way possible!
7. Annual Report | Dyvovyzhni NGO | 2017 | 7
We created the first social ads
to shine a spotlight on the positive
change already happening around
us. Every small mindful step is the
basis for more significant change
in the society.
▶▶ The team scrupulously worked
on the script for about
5 months.
▶▶ Without promotion, the ads
gained 860,000 views on Face-
book, 15,000 shares, 8,800
reactions, over 1,700 com-
ments (including reposts) and
its organic reach constituted
over 1.5 million (as of Decem-
ber 2017).
▶▶ On TV, the video was broad-
cast by over 30 channels within
a month. It was seen by almost
7 million viewers.
The success of our first social ads
inspired us to work on a new
project. A video about the impor-
tance of seatbelts was filmed
as part of the campaign For Safe
Roads in collaboration with
Center for Democracy and Rule
of Law (CEDEM) and Vision Zero
for Ukraine CSO with the support
of the Government of Sweden.
▶▶ Social videos need to contain
images that the Ukrainian
society can relate to. The selec-
tion is based on social research
as well as expert opinions.
▶▶ This video also had consid-
erable results: 136,000 views
on Facebook (as of December
2017).
▶▶ 4.3 million viewers watched
the reel trough TV broadcast.
Our first wonderful film tells the
story of the uCRAZYans festival –
the platform which unites the
active and the passionate. People
are the ones who make change
in the society. Their lives are dif-
ferent, but there is something that
unites them…
We decided to tell who they are,
why they decided to be activists,
and what they encountered along
the way.
▶▶ The running time of the film
is 15 minutes. It unites the sto-
ries of three agents of change
whose paths cross at the
uCRAZYans festival.
▶▶ The short film was released
on December 27, 2017.

COLLABORATION
AND DEVELOPMENT
We are convinced that, when
it comes to work for the community,
1+1=3! Which means, two partici-
pants generating a valuable result
together achieve much more than
they could have achieved individ-
ually. That is why we always strive
to engage long-term and new
partners in the creative process.
For over half a year, Roman
Vintonov’s team and we worked
together on з UA:PBC (Suspilne-
Public Broadcasting Company).
Dyvovyzhni help to build and implement the strategy of social and
political department . We have developed a methodology and work
system with UA:PBC regional branchesin this respect and have contrib-
uted to monitoring and assessment of social and political programs.
Sharing experience is one of our
main focus areas. Sometimes we
wish we could be cloned so we would
have enough time to respond to all
invitations. We use every chance
to stimulate the work of enthusias-
tic initiatives and activists.
We deliver lectures and trainings
on leadership, project activity,
social media (Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia
etc.). We contribute to organiza-
tional consulting of NGOs
(Kharkiv). We give talkson activism
with curious and enthusias-
tic school and college students.
We gladly share #opportunities for
active citizens, their interesting
initiatives and #victories on our
Facebook page.
Our ambitions and chances to share
knowledge and experience started
expanding beyond the borders
of the country. The team members
had to fly quite often… literally.
▶▶ We met Ukrainian and local
groundbreakers in Madrid.
▶▶ We talked about the compre-
hensive approach to projects
at City Forum in Bishkek.
▶▶ We mentored two media
projects in the Prague Civil
Society Center as part of an art
residence.
▶▶ We talked about communi-
ty engagement in the activity
of CSOs and strategic commu-
nications for activists at Camp-
Camp 2017 in Tbilisi.
We started developing our social
entrepreneurship more actively.
It allows to implement positive
change on a broader scale, com-
bining common good with greater
financial independence.
For instance, Dyvovyzhni are
reinterpreting the tradition of office
parties, introducing a new practice
of useful team building parties.
You can book a wonderful party for
your team, or what about an unusual
prom or birthday? Together with
you, we will create an unforgettable
event.

We support openness and transparency of activity
of civil society organizations. Therefore, everyone is free
to look at the financial component of our activity.
During 2017,
we implemented four projects
FINANCE

necessary state agencies. We want you, too, to under-
stand how our activity is financed and how funds are
allocated.

Apart from donor support, another source of income
is our own programs. Through our social entrepreneur-
ship, we made USD 11,368 over 2017! Your recommen-
dation is very important - that is what helps us to keep
going and becoming more financially independent.
In addition to that, we received USD 714 of chari-
table donations and work laptops during the year.
We are sincerely grateful to everyone who supported us,
for trusting our organization! We are thankful to our
donors and to all Dyvovyzhni’s friends who contributed
to our development by supporting our activity.

TEAM
This year, a two-room office stopped being enough for the whole team
of Dyvovyzhni. As of December, 2017, there are 16 people who are regularly
involved in project implementation. We come from Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia,
Lviv and there are even people from other continents.
It is not just our number that grows
– we grow professionally and per-
sonally! In their free time, team
members take up Erasmus courses
or a seminar by Aspen Institute,
improve their English or learn
to take photos or translate.
Here is a principle we find impor-
tant: “A person is an asset, not
a resource.” Resources end up
exhausted, but assets are accumu-
lated and augmented. One of our
know-hows against burnout is called
WonderDay. Once a year, each team
member chooses a special day that
they dedicate to making their per-
sonal dreams come true. And they
can share with the team if they wish.
What supports and inspires us,
our competences and ambitions –
we tell more about ourselves in this
album:

We strive to increase the level of our professionalism
regularly. That is why, among other things, a special
unit has been created – Dyvovyzhni Supervisory
Council.
They are prominent experts in their professional
areas, who consult us on strategic issues and help us
to improve the quality of our work. And we find this
experience helpful!

WHAT WILL
PEOPLE SAY?
…and participants of educational working
trips of regional activists to Kyiv:
“My dream to visit Dyvovyzhni’s
office and get some of this energy,
feel and see the superpower of cre-
ativity has come true!”
“Everything that Dyvovyzhni have
is wonderful: the rug in their office,
the partnership strategy of collab-
oration, photographers, methods
of identification of social problems,
readiness to listen, perceive and
help!”
“I’m still pumped! I would call
this trip a charger, because I met
a lot of people whose actions
inspire to achieve new heights.
I want to thank these wonderful
new people in my life. I hope it’s
just the beginning of our commu-
nication!”

“Collider became a turning point
for me. After this program, I dis-
covered a whole new world - social
activism. I saw that there are
so many interesting things around
me, and there are so many interest-
ing things that I could do by myself.
The main idea is: everything is pos-
sible! If you want, you can find
the necessary funds, connections,
support! From now on, I am going
to participate in various trainings,
programs, engage in the activity
of NGOs or just initiative groups
and do something useful together.”
“My most vivid impressions come
from the sociology lecture and
the workshop “Critical Thinking.”
I greatly enjoyed the recording
process of the video “Why I Love
Mariupol.” Even those who had lived
here for many years had a chance
to think about it and reconsider
something…”
“You can endlessly attend train-
ings and courses and never get
to any real actions. Collider gave
me a chance to try what it’s like
to work as part of a team. Organiz-
ing an event is not that hard when
you work with like-minded people.
It became a revelation for me. I had
always thought - how am I supposed
to do all of that by myself? And
I would end up giving up, because
it was hard to do something grand
single-handedly. But after the first
event I felt euphoric: I can do it,
we can do it!”

WHAT HAPPENS
NEXT
New Direction
Dyvovyzhni are narrowing down
the focus of their activity. The way
we have made from a volunteer ini-
tiative to a nationwide organization
has given us a range of tools and
know-hows. Now we strive to dis-
seminate our practices!
Our focus areas for 2018:
▶▶ exchange of experience
in organizational development;
▶▶ exchange of experience
in communications;
▶▶ building networks and
partnerships.
We are going to work on all of that
thanks to the institutional grant
we received in 2017.
The grant competition for USAID/
ENGAGE had many steps. The final
one was making a video on the work
of our organization. We filmed a rap
video Just the Time for Dyvovyzhni.
Our current mission is development of civil society through
increasing the effectiveness of the social sector.
Social Collider 3.0
How are we going to share the
experience we have gained? We have
developed a competition for grass-
roots initiatives!
It is designed for those who wish
to develop, are open to dialogue,
work with a wide range of the pop-
ulation and have at least half a year
of experience.
During 2018, we are going to work
on developing organizational and
communication capability of 5 civil
society organizations/initiatives.
We are going to help them to imple-
ment new approaches and prod-
ucts, which we are going to develop
together with them, into their
activity.
The main principle is collaboration and joint creativity!

JUST THE TIME FOR
DYVOVYZHNI!
We continue to unite and empow-
er active citizens across the country
to strengthen positive changes
in the society. Because we are cer-
tain that only mindful involvement
and joint creativity of people can
make those changes possible and
sustainable.
It means new horizons, new challenges, work which is not easy but exciting
and to which we already look forward.
You are welcome to become part of this
space of opportunities!
Whichever year it is, it is the right
time for wonderful people who are
ready to act instead of grumbling!
Up until this year, we would most-
ly achieve our goals through direct
engagement of citizens to active
change. Together with them, we
would make small improvements
of the environment, as well as inspire
them to find like-minded people
and continue this work on their
own.
But 2017 became a year of consider-
able growth for us. We have changed
the focus. Dyvovyzhni do not repair
entrance halls or paint benches
on their own any more.
But our path is the same!
We empower grassroots initiatives
and those who work directly with
communities. Thus, we reach even
more citizens than we used to do
through direct actions.
So, now we:
share the experience we have gained
with organizations and initiatives
to help them to arrange their work
more efficiently;
discuss involvement of citizens
in change and activism, so that
as many people as possible would
find out about socially important
causes and join mindful actions;
empower partnerships of grass-
roots initiatives, foster the devel-
opment of a powerful platform for
exchange of practices and collabo-
ration.
