Tooth filling is a very common cosmetic dentistry procedure nowadays. Be it a child or an
elderly person, all come across cavities during their lifetime and in order to remove those cavities
from the tooth filling is performed by the dentist.
Over the years, numerous options have come up when we talk about fillings. According to one
own preferences, budget and like, one can choose from the different types of tooth filling
options. Following are 4 types of it:
Composite resin: This type of filling goes along with the color of our natural tooth. This is
because dentist prepares the filling which completely resembles with the patient tooth color.
However, proper care is needed to be taken because if not done so then over the time stains can
occur.
Amalgam Tooth Fillings in Manhattan or elsewhere: This is the most commonly used filling
since many centuries. Prepared from silver and mercury metals this was the most preferred type
of filling because it had good durability, less expensive, strong and long lasting effect. However,
the only problem with it was that it could not match up to the color of our natural teeth.
Gold filling: For a pleasing appearance, gold filling is also preferred my many people who can
spend a bit more than their budget. Moreover, these are strong, non-corrosive and long lasting.
Ceramic: Just like composite resin this material too completely matches with our natural tooth
color, but yes, ceramic filling do not get stain as easily as composite resin filling get. Further,
looking into the cost factor this filling costs same as to that of gold filling.
Steps involved in filling tooth
⢠Firstly the dentist would tell the person to settle down on the dentist chair. He would then
examine the decayed tooth and let the person know which type of filling would be
suitable for him.
⢠After doing so, patient would numb the area around the decayed tooth.
⢠Next, a drill, air abrasion instrument, and a laser would be used to clean the infected part.
Till the decayed portion is not removed the equipment would be used again and gain by
the dentist.
⢠Once cleaning of decay has been done, dentist would examine the area to determine
whether all the decay has been removed or not. Once he is satisfied, he would then
prepare the filing and apply to the area which has been cleaned.
⢠Lastly, a finish and polish would be given to the filling so that it gets properly firmed in
the tooth. Sometimes, excess material is applied which is needed to be trimmed so that
curves or hills are not made which makes the patient feel uneasy.
