1. Cách sử dụng thì Quá khứ đơn:
Cách dùng Ví dụ
Diễn đạt một hành động xảy ra một, một vài
lần hoặc chưa bao giờ xảy ra trong quá khứ

Diễn đạt các hành động xảy ra liên tiếp trong
quá khứ
She turned on her computer, read the
message on Facebook and answered it.
Diễn đạt một hành động xen vào một hành
động đang diễn ra trong quá khứ

Dùng trong câu điều kiện loại II

2. Cấu trúc ngữ pháp thì Quá khứ đơn:
Câu khẳng định
I/He/She/It/ You/We/They + Verb (past)
Câu phủ định
I/He/She/It You/We/They didn’t (did not) + Verb (bare)
Câu nghi vấn
Did I /He / She / It / You/ We / They + Verb (bare)
Câu trả lời ngắn Yes

3. Dấu hiệu nhận biết thì quá khứ đơn trong tiếng anh :
 Yesterday
 (two days, three weeks) ago
 last (year, month, week)
 in (2002, June)

4. Các dạng chia động từ trong thì quá khứ đơn:
– Với các động từ theo quy tắc (Regular Verb) : Ta thành lập dạng của động từ thì
quá khứ đơn bằng cách thêm ed theo nguyên tắc sau :
Regular Verb Ví dụ
Thêm ed hoặc d sau hầu hết động từ Stay -> Stayed; Place -> Placed
Bỏ y và thêm ied với động từ kết thúc bởi 1
phụ âm + y Study -> Studied; Cry -> Cried
Động từ kết thúc bởi một trọng âm chứa 1
nguyên âm + 1 phụ âm, ta gấp đôi phụ âm
cuối rồi thêm ed Travel -> Travelled; Grab -> Grabbed
- Một số động từ bất quy tắc trong tiếng Anh
