Debra Hanken Kurtz, CEO of DuraSpace, and Robert Miller, CEO of LYRASIS, held a community town hall meeting in which they reviewed how the two organizations came together to investigate a merger that would build a more robust, inclusive, and truly global community with multiple benefits for members and users.

- Robert Sprints - Following what we do in software – 2 week increments Accomplish what we did in a Sprint – draft mission statement Why important and looking for input or feedback Combined Mission statement – this statement represents a nice framing by both teams of the shared vision they see as part of this merger. We would like your feedback to this draft mission statement. What will follow will be case studies for each key sector of the content community, ranging from benefits that academics to public libraries will enjoy. Software and Services Programs Note: that we are testing out the naming – LYRASIS as the parent org, DuraSpace is the division Broader organizational support and security for each open source project and community program Shared direct labor and program resources offers broader sustainability for projects Broader and more connected communities Stronger executive support for projects, programs and services Improved fiscal support, ability to generate additional funding and better fiscal stability Indirect support for outreach activities such as training and documentation available to serve members and wider communities Expanded technological footprint with ancillary service support
- Debra - Some of the “Why” Engagement - We have 140 top tiers orgs with DuraSpace, over 2,000 users of DSs software solutions, over 1,200 members from LYR and another 3,000 users of LYR services that represent all levels of GLAMs. How can we leverage this fiscal commitment to key programs and projects. Access – to support the 6 CSS/OSS will be 14 technical people. Think of the synergies and creativity that will be gained. Hosted Services – To support the 7 DTS will be 8 direct. Think of the opportunity to deliver end-to-end solutions. And to aid both of these areas, there will be 19 indirect staff who can help identify, support and engage users. Content - Combined there will be a purchasing power of over $5 billion dollars. DTS operations = 3 (Mark, Blake, Brian); DTS outreach = 1 (Maddie), myself, 3 from DuraSpace (Carissa, Bill, and Danny) So the total for hosting services would be 8, 5 from LYR and 3 from DS CSS/OSS – 14 total LYR – 6, LYR 2 FTE Development; DS 6 Support – 19 total Training – 2, Member Services (10), Member Outreach ( 5), fiscal (2)

- Robert While you might not see it at first blush, Sustainability ensures that the engagement with institutions both large and small will be consistent and professional while also being nimble and responsive. Brand footprint – Recognizable and trusted within respective communities. Vivo community sought out DS as an example. LYR has over $6mm it holds as a fiscal agent and over $70mm from over 80 best-of-field vendors representing over 800 vetted projects; including e resources Leveraging Global – Over 28 countries are represented with this merger. International languages represented at various levels at the Management level include German, Spanish, Chinese. Technical Perl, PHP, shell scripts, XSLT/XPath/XQuery, Ruby, html, SQL, Bash, Drupal, Javascript, Java, jquery, C#.
