Respondents indicated an overall commitment
to digital content preservation:
• 66 (66%) had a commitment to digital preservation
• 19 (19%) had no commitment to digital preservation
• 15 (15%) did not know
Of 100 respondents:
• 50 (50%) were actively preserving content
• 35 (35%) had future digital preservation plans
• 10 (10%) were not preserving content
• 5 (5%) did not know

25. DIGITAL PRESERVATION PRACTICES
Responses regarding digital preservation practices were mixed: • 66 indicated data backup • 32 chose outsourcing to externally managed preservation repositories Several respondents opted to describe alternatives in the form of written comments including: • Cloud space for limited digital assets • DuraCloud, APTrust, and ResourceSpace

• 37 funded DP through another line in the regular budget
• 32 did not know
Further dispersed responses suggested that direct funding for preservation activities is not standardized in the non-ARL academic library community.

27. MANAGING DIGITAL COLLECTIONS SURVEY RESULTS
Digital preservation Respondents indicated that digital preservation is a priority. They have a commitment to digital preservation through mission/strategic plans. Some have implemented a digital preservation program as demonstrated by implementation of a variety of software and services (e.g. Portico, LOCKSS).

•
Non-ARL academic library have made significant progress in implementing IR/DR since the 2007 Census of U.S. Institutions.
•Benefits of IR/DR focus on
–providing access and preservation of institutions digital output
–Promoting undergraduate research

•While preservation is identified as an important benefit, preservation program haven’t been implemented
