6. “It’s Just a Joke”
Society is filled with racial slurs, comments, jokes, and
acts. We see it in TV shows, movies, advertisements, or
even a walk down the street. Racism has been around for
a while; society has eased up to racism from acting on it
to keeping the thoughts to ourselves. Now it has become
a joke amongst friends and families, jokes about all
ethnic groups, even against whites. For example, “white
people don’t have rhythm,” “Africans Americans steal,”
“Asians are good at math along with terrible drivers.”
These stereotypes are such a part of society that these
ethnic groups sometimes live up to the expectation.
