could also appear
P O O R P E O P L E : eating turned into
entertainment when victorious commander and politicians
treated them to a meal
Once Augustus entertained 320.000 citizens

3. CIRCUS GAMES: had big crowds
HORSE RACES
WAR GAMES
GLADIATOR BATTLES: most amusement
TRIUMPH: great spectacle
started: from the Mars field then marched to the
Circus Maximus then turned to the Via Sacra which
led to the Forum. Finally to the temple of Jupiter

4. Sports and Bathing: Lots of
training halls, baths and wresting arenas
Nobles, Poor People and Slaves appeared
Theatres: - entertainment for high level
-Greek and Latin authors
First Arena Theatre:- 55 BC built by Pompey
- 10.000 people
Libraries:first poor supplies
-first just Private Libraries later Public Libraries
(Augustus)

5. Asinius Pollio established the first Library
-In Forum Trajan: most significant library
-Minerva: protection of libraries (statues)
