Learning Objective of this presentation
 To Learn some practical techniques for implementing
active learning in your class, and understand the strengths
and weaknesses of active learning so you can use it
effectively and wisely.

Quality in Education
“Quality is never an accident;
it is always
the result of high intention,
sincere effort,
intelligent direction,
and skillful execution;
it represents the wise choice of many
alternatives.”

Think Pair Share(TPS)
• Active learning strategy, in which students work
on a problem posed by instructor,
– first individually (Think), then in pairs (Pair) or
groups, and
– finally together with the entire class (Share).
• T (Think): Teacher asks a specific question
about the topic. Students "think" about what they
know or have learned, and come up with their
own individual answer to the question. [Takes 1-
3 Minutes].
CC BY-SA-NC
Think Pair Share(TPS)
• P (Pair): Teacher asks another question, related
to the previous one, that is suitable to deepen
the students’ understanding of the topic. Each
student is paired with another student. They
share their thinking with each other and proceed
with the task. [Takes 5-10 Minutes].
• S (Share): Students share their thinking (or
entiresolution)
moderates
with the
the discussion
class.

important points. [Takes 10-20 minutes].CC BY-SA-NC
Think-Pair-Share
• Pose a question, and ask students to think about its
answer. Instruct students to pair off and take turns
explaining their answers to each other.

CONCEPT MAPPING
CC BY-SA-NC
Concept Mapping
Students work in small groups to create concept maps. A
concept map is a way for students to:
 Create visual representations of models, ideas, and the
relationships between concepts
 Illustrate the connections that exist between terms or
concepts covered in course material by lines
which indicate the relationship between each set of
connected terms
 Identify and organize information and to establish
meaningful relationships between the pieces of information
These can then be shared, discussed, and critiqued.CC BY-SA-NC
Jigsaw
CC BY-SA-NC
What is Jigsaw learning
Method?
Jigsaw is a cooperative learning
strategy that enables each student of a “home”
group to specialize in one aspect of a learning
unit. Students meet with members from other
groups who are assigned the same aspect,
and after mastering the material, return to the
“home” group and teach the material to their
group members.

FISHBOWL
CC BY-SA-NC
What is “FISHBOWL”
In a Fishbowl discussion, students seated inside the “fishbowl”
actively participate in a discussion by asking questions and sharing
their opinions, while students standing outside listen carefully to the
ideas presented. Students take turns in these roles, so that they
practice being both contributors and listeners in a group discussion.
