Introduction
 The teacher has a major role in the educational development.
He/she has the greatest responsibility on his or her shoulders
in building the nation.
 The teaching is the fundamental duty of a teacher and it has to
be made effective in order to make a successful teacher.
 The main function of a teacher is to create a good learning
environment that motivates the students to learn enough more
and more.
 An effective teacher may be understood as one who helps in a
development of basic skills, understanding, proper habits,
desirable attitudes, value judgment and adequate personal
adjustment of students.
 Effective teachers also lead to best academic performance and
optimal all-round development of the students.
 This paper highlights various techniques and strategies that
facilitates fruitful learning.
2
Strategies for Effective Teaching
 Teachers must master a variety of perspectives and strategies,
and be flexible in their application.
 Professional Knowledge and Skills: Effective teachers have a
good command of their subject matter and solid core of
teaching skills.
 Subject-Matter Competence
 Instructional Strategies
 Goal-Setting and Instructional Planning Skills
 Classroom-Management Skills
 Motivational Skills
 Communication Skills
 Technological Skills
 Commitment:Being an effective teacher also requires
commitment. This includes being motivated, having a good
attitude, and caring about students.
3
Strategies for Effective Teaching….
 Professional Growth: Effective teachers develop a positive identity,
seek advice from experienced teachers, maintain their own learning,
and build up good resources and supports.
 Seek Advice from Competent Experienced Teachers
Experienced teachers are more likely than beginning teachers to:
• Have confidence in their decision-making and problem-solving
strategies
• Have expertise in managing their classrooms
• Orchestrate smoothly running classrooms
• Engage in well-practised, virtually automatic routines
• Have extensive knowledge of instructional strategies
• Make deep interpretations of events.
• Never Stop Learning
• Maintain Interpersonal Relationships
4
Factors involved in Effective Teaching
5
Effective Teaching
The quality of teaching which results in desirable behavioral changes in students
and paves the way for students learning new things by themselves.

18. Absence of evaluation of learning and providing
immediate feedback
19. Not treating all student’s alike
Characteristics of Ineffective Teachers…
10
Effective Methods and Techniques for
Enhancing Student Learning
 Desire method: This is one of the unique but most effective teaching strategies to
grab student attention and interest.
 Active learning: The one sided lecture methods are no more fruitful to get the
interest of the new generation students. They would better respond well to the
active learning strategies.
 Cooperative learning: Give them a chance to come out of their seats and interact
with their peers and have a cooperative learning experience.
 Teach with VAK: The visual, audio, and kinaesthetic learning are three key areas that
need to be focused to offer an optimal learning experience.
 Case method: This is a really effective teaching strategy that gives promising
outcome. Rather than simply teaching a new topic, share with them a real life
example with which they can connect it.
 Prompt feedbacks: Giving valuable and consistent feedbacks to student is equally
important to teaching them new lessons.
 Time management: Teaching them how to manage their time efficiently is the key
to successful classroom learning.
 Flipped classroom: Inverting your class approach has proved to be really effective
for all types of classrooms. In this method, students are asked to prepare on the
lessons before hand through video tutorials at home.
 Gamification: Learning through games approach is not only effective for elementary
students but also for higher classes. When games are made a part of teaching,
students would approach the lessons more lightly and this helps them to be closer
with the subjects. 11
Effective Methods and Techniques for Enhancing
Student Learning…..
 Brainstorming: It is good to include some brain storming sessions in the
classroom when students can challenge their thinking process. Give them
puzzles or interesting activities in which they need to apply their thought
process.
 Distributed practice: The study activities are supposed to be spread over
the period which gives significant results. Students usually have a habit of
rushing with the lessons when the deadlines for exams are nearing.
 Teacher student relation: Maintaining a good relationship with the student
is important for a teacher to make his/her teaching method more
effective.
 Online tools: Teachers can make use of the online tools to bring fun to the
classroom and ensure engagement and maximum participation.
 Outdoor learning: Students would love it when they are taken out of the
four walls of the classroom to spend some quality learning time outdoors.
 Student ideas: The learning phase would be more productive only if there
is a give and take policy between the teachers and students.
 Practice testing: In addition to all these methods, the time invested for self
learning counts the most. They should be given some practice tests on a
regular basis when they can evaluate or assess themselves on the areas
where they lack and need to improve. 12
Conclusion
 Effective teachers take personal responsibility for students learning,
determines the difficulty of lesson with the ability of the student, give the
opportunities to students to practice newly learned concepts, provide
direction and control of learning, use a variety of instructional, verbal
methodology and visual aids, present material in small steps, initiate
classroom dialogues, encouraging independent thinking, problem solving
and decision making and provide methods of learning with mental
strategies for organizing and learning the content being taught.
 In this way effective teacher one who has clear concept of the subject
matter, ability to write clear objectives for his/her course, ability to
organize learning materials, ability to communicate his/her knowledge to
the students successfully and deal with classroom situations.
 There are a lot more teaching techniques and strategies that give
impressive results in improving the student learning. School authorities
should also offer a helping hand in supporting teachers to implement
advanced and creative strategies in classrooms.
 With the advancements in mobile technology and digital education, smart
school software and education apps are taking an important role in
student life. Parents also have equal responsibility in giving them a
comfortable environment and productive support to help them have a
pleasant learning.
