This document reviews and summarizes several teeth whitening kits. It describes the components of each kit and evaluates them based on factors like amount of gel supplied, gel consistency, quality of trays and LED light, and effectiveness. Most kits provided barely enough gel, had poor trays that were difficult to mold, dim LED lights, and achieved a barely perceptible whitening of under 1 shade even after a week. The best kit achieved a 2 shade whitening but contained a harmful ingredient. Overall, the document finds that most kits do not work as advertised and gives low ratings, emphasizing the superiority of dentist-fitted whitening systems.

Best Selling Amazon Teeth Whitening Kits REVIEWED by a Dentist
1. Best Selling Amazon Teeth Whitening
Kits REVIEWED by a Dentist
Professional Teeth Whitening Kit with Activated Charcoal
£14.99
Kit Contents
This system consists of several components that you will find in the kit. Firstly, there are
teeth whitening gels presented in syringes. Secondly, there are teeth whitening plastic
moldable trays. These are generic, therefore in order to fit them into your particular shape of
2. mouth, you need to put them in hot or boiling water to soften them. Once the plastic is soft,
then you can try to mold that into the shape of your teeth. Thirdly, there is an LED light
source which is supposed to enhance the effects of whitening gels.
Finally, there is a paper whitening teeth shade guide where you can measure the colour of
your teeth, before and after.
Pros and Cons
Let's look at each of these components of the teeth whitening kit in turn.
● The amount of gel supplied was enough for all only one-week application. This
means that you would have to buy another kit if you wanted to continue with the
whitening.
● The gel was too runny and this meant that most of it was quickly swallowed up as it
leaked out of the whitening trays into your mouth.
● The trays were very difficult to mould around your actual teeth. This is because as
soon as they were taken out of the hot water, you only had a few seconds in which to
carry out the moulding around your teeth. This was not enough time.
● The LED light was very dim and seemed like a last-minute add-on gimmick. The
connection was also very flimsy and therefore the light kept going off intermittently.
● Finally, that paper shade comparison guide was not much use as it bore no
resemblance to natural enamel.
Normally, if you have power whitening carried out in dental surgery, you would immediately
expect to achieve a 4 shade increase in your teeth being whiter. After a week, there would
be some fade back which always occurs with any whitening system, and the shade would
then drop down to be an approximately 3 shade increase.
If on the other hand, you carried out home tooth whitening with a dentist-approved teeth
whitening system, after approximately 2 weeks, you would expect a 3 shade increase in the
whiteness of your teeth.
With this system, that we reviewed, the shade increase immediately afterwards was at one
shade increasing brightness. It is important to bear in mind that with any system that
dehydrates your teeth, the teeth will always increase in lightness. This immediate increase is
purely due to the enamel of your teeth becoming dehydrated. However, after a day or two,
your teeth will go back to their original colour as if there has been no change in lightness.
This is the reason why we also measured the shade after 1-week. With this system, after
one week the shade increase was only one-quarter of an increase in lightness. This is barely
perceptible and unsatisfactory in our view.
The marketing jargon says that charcoal has absorptive properties but that does not mean
that it can effectively lift out enamel stains or even if it has any effect. They also talk about a
“special gel” but don’t tell you what is in this special gel or why it’s special.
3. Verdict
On this basis, we give this product 3 out of 10.

Effective Than Strips or Charcoal
£29.00
Kit Contents
This system consists of several components:
1. Firstly, there are the teeth whitening gels presented in syringes.
5. 2. Secondly, there are teeth whitening plastic moldable trays. These are generic and
therefore in order to fit them into your particular shape of mouth, you need to put
them in hot or boiling water to soften them. Once the plastic is soft, then you can try
to mould that into the shape of your teeth.
3. Thirdly, there is an LED light source which is supposed to enhance the effects of

4. Finally, there is a paper whitening teeth shade guide where you can measure the
colour of your teeth, before and after.
Pros and Cons
Let's look at each of these components of the teeth whitening kit in turn.
● The amount of gel supplied was enough for all only 4 days application. This means
that you would have to buy another kit if you wanted to continue with the whitening.
● The gel was inconsistent and this meant that most of it was quickly swallowed up as
it leaked out of the whitening trays into your mouth.
● The trays were very difficult to mould around your actual teeth. This is because as
soon as they were taken out of the hot water, you only had a few seconds in which to
carry out the moulding around your teeth. This was not enough time.
● The LED light was very dim and kept flickering.
● Finally, that paper shade comparison guide was not much use as it bore no
resemblance to natural enamel as a comparison.
The kit states that it has “Full UK CPSR certification” which sounds impressive but all means
is that they paid a laboratory about £120 to say that the gels are not cancer causing and not
toxic.

With this system, after one week the shade increase was only half a shade in increase in

would have to buy another kit if you wanted to continue with the whitening.
● The gel was too watery and this meant that most of it was quickly swallowed up as it
leaked out of the whitening trays into your mouth.
● The trays were better than most of the other systems on comparison but still nowhere
near as good as ones that a dentist makes.
● The LED light was slightly brighter than others but the battery was only good for 31

Finally, that paper shade comparison guide was not much use as it bore no resemblance to
natural enamel.
Verdict

does not work.

9. Pros and Cons
Let's look at each of these components of the teeth whitening kit in turn.
● The amount of gel supplied was for 15 minutes a day for 12 days.
● The gel had gone off in 3 of the syringes so we were dubious also about the rest. It
was either a bad batch or just a dubious system. When we contacted the company,
they didn’t even bother to reply back.
● The trays were very difficult to mould around your actual teeth. This is because as
soon as they were taken out of the hot water, you only had a few seconds in which to

● There were no details of the ingredients in the gels. On emailing the company, there
was no response and on calling them, they had no idea what they were selling.

Teeth Whitening Kit Professional, Tooth Whitening Gel
£22.99
10. Kit Contents
This system consists of several components that you will find in the kit.

● Finally, there is a paper whitening teeth shade guide where you can measure the

Pros and Cons
Let's look at each of these components of the teeth whitening kit in turn.
11. ● The amount of gel supplied was for 15 minutes a day for 12 days.
● The gel was too viscous and it was with great difficulty to extrude it out of the
syringes. On one occasion, the tip of the syringe came off and all the gel was wasted.
● The trays were so thin that there was no way you could hold them on your teeth
unless you physically held them with your fingers.
● There were no details of the ingredients in the gels. On emailing the company, there
was no response and on calling them, they had no idea what they were selling.
The kit contains a lot of meaningless marketing phrases. They also say that theirs is a “smart
whitening” system because you can connect the LED light to your phone. At least, you don’t
need to buy extra batteries.
Verdict
On this basis, we give this product 2 marks out of 10:

Professional Tooth Whiten Gel Dental Care Home Bleaching
Kit for White Teeth
£18.99
12. This system says that it is dentist made but we wondered if that dentist was even qualified.
The box however does look neat and good quality.
Kit Contents
This system consists of several components that you will find in the kit.
● Firstly, there are the teeth whitening gels presented in syringes.
● Secondly, there are teeth whitening plastic mouldable trays. These are generic and
therefore in order to fit them into your particular shape of mouth, you need to put
them in hot or boiling water to soften them. Once the plastic is soft, then you can try

13. ● Thirdly, there is a LED light source which is supposed to enhance the effects of the
whitening gels.
● Finally, there is a paper whitening teeth shade guide where you can measure the
colour of your teeth, before and after.
Pros and Cons
Let's look at each of these components of the teeth whitening kit in turn.
● The amount of gel supplied was for a week.
● The gel was of a regular consistency.
● The trays were too thick and therefore very difficult to mould around your actual
teeth. They didn’t feel comfortable at all to wear.
● There was a list of ingredients inside the gels but none of these had any proven trials
for teeth whitening. The company also incorrectly states that their results had been
clinically proven but that was false.
With this system, after one week there was no shade increase.
The kit contains a lot of meaningless marketing phrases and actually compares their system
to a professional dentist based kit at a fraction of the price. After using it, we decided that the
best place for it was in the bin.
Verdict
On this basis, we give this product 0 marks out of 10.
BESTOPE Organic Activated Charcoal Powder with 2
Toothbrushes,Safe and Natural Tooth Whitener for Teeth Stain
Removal
£14.99
14. Kit Contents
● This system consists 2 pots of charcoal paste and 2 tooth brushes.
Pros and Cons
● There are reports of charcoal being too abrasive and wearing your teeth away.
● They also talk about “detoxifying your teeth and gums” which is nonsense.
● The toothbrushes supplied became soft within a few days and the bristles splayed
out so much that they had to be put in the rubbish bin.
● After using it, the teeth “seemed” lighter but that was only because they looked black
when the charcoal paste was on your teeth. In reality, there was no effect or very
minimal. The minimal effect was due to the abrasiveness of the charcoal which is not
good for the protective enamel coating of your teeth.
Verdict
On this basis, we give this product 1 marks out of 10.
16. ● Secondly, there are teeth whitening plastic mouldable trays. These are generic and
therefore in order to fit them into your particular shape of mouth, you need to put

to mould that into the shape of your teeth.
● The amount of gel supplied was supposed to be enough for 6 applications but you
needed 2 syringes per session so it was enough for barely 3 days’ worth.
● The gel contains “sodium chlorite” which is harmful to tooth mineral and is a known
irritant.
● The trays were poor and flimsy.
● The LED light did not even fit to the trays.
● Finally, that paper shade comparison guide was not much use as it bore no
resemblance to natural enamel.
With this system, after one week the shade increase was 2 shades but we are extremely
worried about the sodium chlorite as mentioned above. The whitening effect was due to the
erosive properties of sodium chlorite which isn’t recommended.
Verdict
On this basis, we give this product 0 marks out of 10.
iWhite Instant 2 Teeth Whitening Kit - Up to 8 Shades Whiter - Enamel
Restoration
£20.99

18. ● The amount of gel supplied was supposed enough for 5 days but the syringes were
poorly designed and extruded too much in one go.
● The gel contains Phthalimidoperoxycaproic Acid which has some evidence of
working to lighten teeth.
● The trays were difficult to form around your teeth which negated the effect of the
active ingredient, Phthalimidoperoxycaproic Acid.
● The LED light worked but was quite dim.
● Finally, that paper shade comparison guide was not much use as it bore no
resemblance to natural enamel.
With this system, after one week the shade increase was 2 shades but some teeth had a
mottled effect and looked patchy due to the awful trays that came with the kit. We would be
able to get some effectiveness with this system if it came with better trays.
Verdict
On this basis, we give this product 4 marks out of 10.

Teeth Whitening Kit, BESTOPE Teeth Whitening Gel Kit Set
with Led Accelerator Light
£19.99

● Thirdly, there is a LED light source which is supposed to enhance the effects of the
whitening gels.
● Finally, there is a paper whitening teeth shade guide where you can measure the
colour of your teeth, before and after.
20. Pros and Cons
Let's look at each of these components of the teeth whitening kit in turn.
● The amount of gel supplied was enough for 5 days and lots of warnings are given as
it contains 0.1% peroxide. If you did get it in on your gums or swallowed it, it would be
safe as the 0.1% concentration is too low to be of detriment.
● The gel was full of bubbles. These were bubbles of oxygen when peroxide breaks
down. This means that the active ingredient had already reduced effectiveness by
the time it is applied to your teeth.
● The trays were fairly easy to mould and produced a reasonable fit.
● The LED looked impressive but stopped working altogether after 2 days.
● Finally, that paper shade comparison guide was not much use as it bore no
resemblance to natural enamel.
● The result on the teeth individually was very patchy.
Verdict
On this basis, we give this product 3 marks out of 10:
