2. Topics for Discussion
• Muscular system,
• Nervous system,
• urinary system,
• endocrine system,
• respiratory system,
• digestive system,
• reproductive system,
• cardiovascular
system,
• lymphatic system and
immunity
These are the topics we will discuss in this session.
3. Muscular System
The muscular system is
an organ system consisting of
skeletal, smooth and cardiac
muscles. It permits movement of
the body, maintains posture and
circulates blood throughout the
body.
4. Nervous System
The nervous system
is a highly complex part of
human body that coordinates
its actions and sensory
information by transmitting
signals to and from different
parts of its body. The
nervous system detects
environmental changes that
impact the body.
5. Urinary System
The urinary system, also
known as the renal system or urinary
tract, consists of the kidneys, ureters,
bladder, and the urethra. The
purpose of the urinary system is to
eliminate waste from the body,
regulate blood volume and blood
pressure, control levels of
electrolytes and metabolites, and
regulate blood pH. The urinary tract
is the body's drainage system for the
eventual removal of urine.
7. Endocrine System
The endocrine system is a chemical messenger
system comprising feedback loops of the hormones
released by internal glands of an organism directly
into the circulatory system, regulating distant target
organs. In vertebrates, the hypothalamus is the neural
control center for all endocrine systems.
8. Respiratory System
The respiratory system
is a biological system
consisting of Lungs, Trachea,
Bronchi, bronchioles, Alveoli
etc which are used as a
passage for exchange of
gases between the body and
the environment. Apart from
this it also helps in acid base
balance of the body.
9. Digestive System
The human digestive system
consists of the gastrointestinal tract
plus the accessory organs of
digestion (the tongue, salivary
glands, pancreas, liver, and
gallbladder). Digestion involves the
breakdown of food into smaller and
smaller components, until they can
be absorbed and assimilated into
the body.
10. Male Reproductive System
The male reproductive
system consists of a
number of sex organs that
play a role in the process
of human reproduction.
These organs are located
on the outside of the body
and within the pelvis.
11. Female Reproductive System
The female reproductive
system is made up of the
internal and external sex
organs that function in
reproduction of new offspring.
In humans, the female
reproductive system is
immature at birth and develops
to maturity at puberty to be
able to produce gametes, and
to carry a foetus to full term.
12. Cardio-vascular System
The circulatory system, also called
the cardiovascular system or the
vascular system, is an organ system
that permits blood to circulate and
transport nutrients (such as amino
acids and electrolytes), oxygen,
carbon dioxide, hormones, and blood
cells to and from the cells in the body
to provide nourishment and help in
fighting diseases, stabilize
temperature and pH, and maintain
homeostasis.
13. Lymphatic System
The lymphatic system, or
lymphoid system, is an organ
system in vertebrates that is
part of the circulatory system
and the immune system. It is
made up of a large network of
lymph, lymphatic vessels,
lymph nodes, lymphatic or
lymphoid organs, and lymphoid
tissues. The vessels carry a
clear fluid called lymph towards
the heart.
14. Session VI Topics
1. Basic life processes,
Metabolism, growth,
responsiveness,
differentiation,
movement,
reproduction.
2. Homeostasis.
Definition,
regulation, feedback
system. Disorders,
diseases and death.
Signs and Symptoms.
These are the topics we will discuss in the next
session of HAP, so come prepared.
