Workshop Overview
This course will provide an overview of the different types of conflict within
the workplace: the emotional triggers, risk factors, and violence that can
occur if left unresolved; the dynamics which can create or cease the intense
emotional, social, behavioral, and the psychological distress within one’s
workplace environment; and the policies and procedures to resolve and
intervene when there is workplace violence, hostility, or intense
emotional upheaval that has or is occurring.
The course will be looking at what happens when personalities clash;
when there is a perception that their colleague is interfering with their jobs,
duties, or tasks; and how individuals may perceive, interpret, or be convinced
that their “own” progression within an organization has been halted by
the actions or deeds of a fellow employee.
It is prudent to recognize that workplace guidelines and procedures are
the key ingredient to guaranteeing the rights and safety for all. Moreover,
the safety and care factors will only be maintained as long as staff members
recognize their validity. If a dispute arises, but is never completely resolved,
the conflict remains embedded in the workplace until it is fully and formally
settled. Unresolved issues can escalate quickly, jeopardizing the workplace
equilibrium setting into motion a hostile and volatile workplace environment.
The course will help guide individuals to recognize, identify, and manage
or report workplace conflicts. It will help each person to recognize within
their own personality triggers that may cause them to ignite. Finally, the
course will guide the person to work more cooperatively and diligently
toward a common positive outcome.
